does everyone just use their factory chokes for dove or if you an aftermarket choke for ducks do you just leave that one in?

It's not skybusting, if you make the shot.

Sig,
I use a pattern master for everything but turkey. I can't explain all the ballistic stuff but I feel like a do better with it than without it. If you don't want to spend that kind of $ alot of people use a mod. choke. If you've got your mojo about ten yards from you I'd use a imp. cyl. It won't tear the decoy up near as bad

Improved cylinder here as well unless wind is blowing 50+. Then I'll tighten it up a bit.

I got a briley Light Modified choke that I think is about the best dove or teal choke. It is right between Imp and Mod and seems to work the best. It seems half the guys say Imp and half say Mod... this gives you the best of both worlds.

If I didn't have any fancy chokes I would shoot a modified choke...

But I have a SKTII on my SBE... that has been pretty good for me...

If I am shooting my citori, I would have Briley IM on top, and Mod on Bottom...

I'll normally start with a modified but will also move up to an Imp Modified if I'm having to take longer shots.

That's right boys, choke those guns down on those 20yd clueless ice cream floater opening day doves. What does Sasser know about patterning guns and bird hunting anyway.

????????????

Why would you open up your pattern if you were shooting longer distances????

To me you would want to tighten it up some so that your shot was able to get there?

I don't know about your SBE but mine has 5 chokes and from the most open to tightest it goes C, IC, M, IM, F.

The IM and F say no steel shot on them.

He's not. Imp. Mod. is a tighter choke than Mod. Just like Imp. Cyl. is tighter than Cyl. *Light* Mod. is more open than Mod.

I got an old 16 ga Remington model 31 I use for dove, it has a full choke (you cannot change the chokes in it), I have patterned the gun, and really does not seem that tight, I only use this gun for dove. But I may also bring my 12 ga duck gun, I may bring that with improved choke in it, I would probably do better with that gun, but I just love shooting that old 16 ga for dove, it is such a light gun and fun to shoot.

For years before I got my own shotguns I used my dads Winchester Model 50 (semi auto) on doves it had a fixed full choke. I never really knew the difference and killed plenty of doves. Gun had to weigh about 9 pounds...had a 30" barrel too.

With my Yildiz 20ga. I'm going skeet on top & IC on bottom, top 1st & bottom 2nd ,I think (I'll have to go to Elm Fork to make sure)on opening day, also use 8's or 9's . Only 2nd year I've used it. Will go longer as season goes.

My Mossberg 835 pump, IC, 8's 1st day.

I don't shoot an O/U very often but always shot bottom first then top. I heard it helps reduce muzzle climb and makes it easier to get on target for shot #2.

I shoot a IM on the bottom and Full on top. That way I don't have to worry about cleaning the birds! They're already cleaned for you, if you can find what's left!

Seriously, I shoot skeet on bottom and IC on top. If the shots are a bit long I will switch to IC on bottom and LM or Mod on top.

That's for 28ga, 20ga, or 12ga.
