I've hunted in huntsville when I was in college which is about an hour southwest of there. Its a different kinda hunting especially if your hunting in the piney woods, but there are alot of good bucks out in that area. You just have to hunt them hard or so has my experience out in that area taught me.

What part of Polk County? What town is the lease closest to? I was on a lease for quite a few years between the Indian Reservation and Woodville on the South side of Hwy 190 about 6 miles off the hwy.
I never would have thought that the deer population was as high as it was when I was first told about the lease. It was easy to see 15-25 deer each hunt (a hunt is morning or afternoon, not combined) and it was absolutely unreal, at least in that part of the county.
Really dark-horned, older-aged bucks and our lease had a long ridge and some great bottomland hardwoods literally covered up in White Oaks and Swamp Chestnut Oaks.
We were taking 125-145 class bucks each year and out of the 2 buck limit, only 1 could be a buck of that stature, the other buck had to be a true cull (3 point, 4 or 6 points without brow tines and at least 2.5 yr old). Covered up with does.
This was back from 97-2000 when I was on that place. Fee was $350/gun with guests after the first 2 weeks. I think it was $450 this past season.

there are some nice deer in the county. Always some nice deer shot in the NW portion around the Trinity County line and along the Neches and Piney Creek.
