Took some decoys down to my buddy's deer lease about a month ago and showed him what it's about. He has been three times since, even bought some decoys. He is having trouble admitting that I was right, but he's getting there. Typical deer hunter, been talking smack about ducks for years. Got myself another place to hunt in the process.

I will have to say that I am newly converted myself. I spent many years talking trash and now I have to eat a little crow. Went the first time weekend before last and I can't get it off my mind.

You don't have to choose one or the other. Do both! Pops (either too much crown or wasn't ready for the flash)...or both

I think I am slowing turning my dad into a waterfowler. We used to rabbit, squirrel and deer hunt when I was a kid. Now he pretty much just shoots deer and hogs. I've been slowly putting the bug in his ear. Last week he sent me a pic of a duck he shot asking me what it was and if I would mount it for him. I sent him an ID book to help him out with the identification. Now it seems that every other day he sends me some pics asking what type of ducks are on the ponds. Just today he sent a pic of one of the ponds loaded up with widgeon, ringers and gaddies. I need to go up there and show him how it's really done with decoys and a dog. It would be awesome to duckhunt with my dad.

That is true the best of bothw worlds. I love doing both. Take the wife deer hunting and I get to go duck hunting.
Youth is great but the wisdom that comes with age is also very good.

My dad grew up in the valley hunting deer and varmits. He hunted ducks a few times before I was born and used to fish a lot of bass tournaments. I got into duck hunting when I went to college and he jumped in headlong with me. He's ate up with ducks nowadays. I try to take him on the easier hunts, no long walks, no packing decoys, etc.

I need to try and find some of the old pics from my dad's youth.
My grandpa used to raise greyhounds. They used them to chase down and bay rabbits, coyotes, and even a few bobcats.

Nice pic Moose.
Almost talked my Dad into going with me on our Christmas visit back to Louisiana. He's never gone, but after hearing me talk with my cousin's husband, he commented we might be able to take a look at a few places around his house (central Louisiana).
Yep, I see waders in his future.

Stick to eating crow it taste better than duck. You are right I don't like the way they taste but they sure are fun to shoot. So far I have been able to clean them all and give them away. So as long as somebody will take them I guess I will shoot them.

You know Kyle, I think it is.
I forgot which one it was b/c we shoot a lot of them down south, but you are right that's the one.
I think at least half the forum knows the spot where this picture was taken.

I"m in the process of converting a buddy right now. Every time he leaves for a deer hunt I tell him "Don't forget your bullet!" We talk later, he didn't shoot; we shot plenty. It's working...

My brother was a to the bone deer hunter. his whole lilfe was deer deer and deer. He kept asking why I would want to shoot a nasty tasting duck. Called me a dumbarse for years. My asnwer was always "Just go with me one time". He finally broke down and said he would go once. Well it was one of htose barrel burner days where groups of 50 toa 100 teal at a time were slamming into the decoys. We had the wind wrong with the wind coming off the water onto land. The teal didn't care they were coming in between us and the decoys and j-hooking into the deeks. I kept telling him to not shoot the freaking teal or we are going to be done in a minute. He didn't listen and we were done before you could really see that well.
My God I have never ever seen anyone get so ate up with duck and goose hunting faster than that man. It is duck this and goose that. Calls me on the telephone everyday and I promise you duck or goose hunting gets mentioned at least 3 times, even in the off season.
He even asked me to shoot a doe for him to make sausage out of. Ate the @#$% up with duck.
Now whoever p[osted earlier about not eating duck because of the taste, aint never had duck cooked right. Breast them cube the meat season with Fiesta fajita seasoning wrap with bacon and a sliver of jalepeno. Cook it over a hot hot mesquite fire. When the bacon is done sprinkle shredded cheese on top and let it encapsulate the ball of meaty greatness. AS soon as it cools off enough eat it, Shiner Bock to follow. What else could there be in life?
