can anyone tell me the difference in a 28" barrel and a 26"barrel on a shotgun, other than the obvious 2" in barrel length? Are there upsides to either one?

Interchangeable choke tubes and improvements in gun powder have eliminated most of the difference in terms of ballistics. The longer barrels are said to improve the "sight plain" and the additional weight is supposed to improve the smoothness of the swing and follow through.

If you plan on using gun primarily for birds, either the 26 or 28 should be just fine and are what most stores will have in stock. If one feels better to you than the other when you handle it, that is probably the one you should go with. JMO.

I have found that the shorter barrels are better for gettin on a quail when they are flushed. I use my 28" for doves, 26" for quail!!
