I like 20, 30 and 40

for me the difference from real close to to 20 yards is not enough to waste a pin on.
It is really whatever you are comfortable with

It depends on how fast your bow is and how heavy your arrows are. When I started shooting axis arrows, instead of the heavy alluminum arrows, my flight path really flattened out. I noticed that my 15 yard pin was only about an inch or two low at the max at 25 yards where it used to be a lot more. I currently have a 15 and a 25 that are almost touching each other, and then a 35 and 45. I could probably get away with one for the 15-25 yard shot and then have a 35 and a 45 if I only had 3.

If you are new to this... and it sounds like you might be... I would make it a 15 yard pin... CBUMP is right.. no need to be shooting over 40 yards unless you are very confortable doing so. Small mistakes in form really get bigger at that distance. Go find a 3d range and practice in real life shooting situations first and then you can decide if you feel confortable taking longer shots at deer. I have a reflex buckskin and love it... very fast and does not make any noise.

I shoot a single vertical pin set for 20 yards. I am not comfortable shooting past that distance and making a killing shot.
