This was my first season in Leon co. and we only got set up 2 weeks before bow season. I shot a doe during the end of bow season. I shot 2 hogs and a spike during gun season. I saw nice deer on camera but they were always in the middle of the night. At the end of the season the animals were still eating corn but just waiting till night to do it. Looking forward to hunting pigs all year long. Very pretty country, but they lack large deer numbers where I am at. I am going to try a couple more years to see if we can make a difference with a good feeding program and some different tactics.

I drive thru Leon Co a lot. I see lots of deer every trip. I've hunted just south of Centerville, at the Fort Boggy SP. Lots of deer there. Put the time in, you will see some good ones.

We hunt out of Buffalo and the hunting is what it is! We have been hunting this place for 7yrs with strict mgmt practices and protein, but I really dont think we will ever kill a huge deer(140+). There is a bunch of nice 8pts....JMHO

Thanks for your replies. Owner wants 5K for 150 acres (over $33 an acre) - no water/electric/place to stay. Way too much money for very little land/accommodations in my opinion. My buddy looked at it this morning and tried to talk him down to $1100 each for 3 guys, he said no. Good luck to him. The search continues.

WAY TOO HIGH!!!!! for that area. The deer hunting is not nearly as good as west Texas. For that money I would be looking west. I don't know where you live. I left a good lease in Coleman because I was tired of the high price. It was $1500 a year and the deer hunting was over the top and the turkey hunting was phenomenal. I just couldn't afford it any more but I will tell you that I saw 4 times as much wildlife in Coleman as I ever have in Centerville.

There are alot of deer around the state park, I think the deer density it pretty good there for east texas standards. I have a co-worker who's from there and still has family there. Said poaching was still a big issue there, some of his family are poachers as well.

You must be talking about that guy that posted his "bow lease" up in the other section. When I saw that price, I swiftly hit "delete"

Way too much for the area. Most of the really good well established clubs around here where there are nice deer taken every season are around $750 to $1,000 a gun. And these are normally several thousand acre properties with nice camps. The bad thing about them is sometimes there is a long list of people waiting on an opening and it may take several years to get in, and even longer unless you know somebody. You can find a decent lease in that area for around $500 a gun if you look hard enough. Check with some of the timber companies, that would probably be your best bet in East TX.

I already posted this on another topic HERE , but thought it was relevant since you hunt in Centerville. It was a very dry year and you can tell by how nasty the deer's coats are.

I hunt in Centerville near Fort Boggy State park and Hayden Lake and here is some of what we got on the game cam last year.
