I have finally deceided to get a 22-250 but I'm not sure what model or what optics I want to go with. I would like to keep the price around $1200. I've heard good things about the winchester coyote on this forum but I've never shot one. I'm not sold on any particular brand of optics either but I use Nikon on my other guns so I'm leaning that way. Pretty much the only thing i'm sure about is a dnz mount for the scope. I can't do any research on my own due to the fact that I am working in Afghanistan and my employer blocks all of the "weapon" websites. i can't even get on stockystocks .

my setup is a Ruger No. 1V Varminter with a Weaver Grand Slam 4x10x50. cant beat it but there are so many others. to each his own. my setup is about $1300. lots of schools on this caliber and optics. every one has an opion on this, you have to experiment and decide.I have a good friend over there too working on building, construction appropriation/planning. yall take care.

Remington 700 VTR with the DNZ mount and any 300-400 dollar scope would be my choice with a budget if 1200. The vtr is a great shooter but some people dont care for the looks of it. Stay safe and good luck on your build.

plastic or wood I want to go with a heavy blued barrel. I would also like the barrel to be flutted. I have no experience with stainless. What are the cons to stainless for night hunts? If I went stainless the finish would have to be dull. A laminate or composite stock. Thanks for the replys

Check out the Howa/Axiom Varminter Scope Package Rifle. It comes with the Camo Nikko Stirling 4-16x44 Nighteater scope and comes with either a 20” or 24” heavy (#6 taper) barrel.
If you ever get a chance to watch Les Johnson on Predator Quest this is one of the rifles he uses. It is a tack driver, and you should be able to grab one with a blue, green, or sand colored stock for under $1000.00!
I picked up a TIKA T-3 from here on the forum a few months back, and have a Redfield 3-9x50 scope on it....it is a tack driver supreme!

I think I have it narrowed it down to these four. Not in any particular order.
Remmy 700 VTR
Win. Coyote
CZ 550
Tika T3
Any thoughts?

Any of those choices should serve you well. I would handle each and see which feels better to you. If you can find someone that would let you try theirs even better. Of those choices I would probally go with the Tikka very smoth actions and guaranteed accuracy.
Optics I own more Nikons than any other single maker, For that cash you could do the Tikka and a Zies Conquest also
Thank you for your service, Stay safe

I think my vote would go to the cz out of those options. Is there a paticular reason you dont want stainless?

buy a low end rem 700 and have a hart barrel put on it. that way you know you will have one that will shoot.

Not sure how much I would actually hunt the gun, I bought a Howa Ranchland in 22-250. With just the Rem Core Lokts was able to get it to group under a dime. I have some hand loads worked up and expect it to tighten up even further. I was very impressed with the gun's accuracy vs cost.

I would say say lilja barrel or hart both are great barrels, buy a good stock and you can be in it for for about same money.

I can't get on the lilja or hart website from over here but I have the wife doing some research for me. After reading a few other threads it seems like buying a rifle with a good action and adding some upgrades will give me the best outcome. The wife said, "If your going to spend that much on a gun you might as well get everything you want."
I would probably go with a rem. 700 action. Anyone know of any good gunsmiths in the West/Northwest Houston area?
