Wondering what a few people here think? Our property is roughly 2400 acres in both Schleicher and Tom Green counties. Good size place lots of cover, oaks, long draws, no cattle, and lots of birds. We have had a couple oufitters come to us about the turkey hunting (we don't hunt them at all) but never said a price.. What is a fair amount to ask as a landowner? Would really rather trade it off for some sort of hunt but I doubt that will be an option. Any feedback would help...

Well how much are the birds worth to you? If the hunting is that good and you have plenty of birds maybe $200 per bird? Or flat rate per hunt with a limmit of maybe 2 birds per hunter... If the outfitter is doing all the work and you are just collecting the pay check then thats not a bad price.
If you are providing lodging for the outfitters clients, lending them your own personal vehicles, etc. then you can charge them a seperate fee for that as well.
I have seen some hunts go for $1100 to $1500 for turkey. Is it really worth that money???

Nothing provided by us, just for the birds.. we have probly only shot 3-4 in 4 years and thats just while deer hunting so they dont mean a whole lot to us.. We dont lease it for anything so just looking at this option for some money to help in my own deer feed costs... An mike Im checking to see what I can do with work on the aoudad dates you pm'd me Thanks again
@7mag- I would look at trading the turkey hunting for a hunt or hunts for myself, or hunt+ some money, whatever could be agreed upon as fair after I showed someone the place. I wouldnt want to agree to something and then whoever I made a deal with think they got shorted on the deal by my description.
Thanks for the replys, Bobby

From what I've seen.....I'd say the landowner should probably get at least $200....possibly $300 per bird. There seem to be quite a few turkey hunts that are 3 days with 2 gobblers going for around $1,000 all inclusive. That leaves room for the landowner and outfitter to both make some money.

I think you would be overpricing yourself at 1000.00, a few would pay that, but you have the outfitter to take care of, and if one hunt goes bad at that price, you are basically out of business. Just my thoughts only. Build it up, get known, then raise your price according to your reputation
avid deer hunter that is disable but God has still blessed me.

I hope you are able to trade it off... and I hope that it's not to someone who will charge $1250.
I grew up hunting 10k acres in Menard. And like you we took turkey during deer season when the opportunity presented itself. Never tried spring turkey.
Two seasons ago, I decided to take my son on a spring turkey hunt in Brady. It was $150 per day for the two of us with 2 day minimum ($300 total + tip). Meals were not included but lodging was. We had blast. Nothing on earth like calling in a spring tom.
My son shot his 1st turkey and we had several opportunities during the 2 day hunt. Had that hunt been either $600 per person or $1200 for 2 birds for each of us, we never would have done it.
I see absolutely nothing wrong with folks making money. Land owners and outfitters, but come on now, it's a turkey.
