what are some of your pet peeves?

personally, it bugs me when i see people driving around the middle of town three months after the season closed with feeders on the front end of their truck. YOUR NOT THAT COOL!

another one is when they have a browning buckmark sticker or TTHA sticker on their back window when they don't own a browning anything or don't suscribe to or read the TTHA mag regularly.

the absoulute worse one is when people were NICE camo outfits to try and conduct business, or on indoor family outings on a weekend. its really hard to take a person seriously when there wearing a long sleeve mossy oak button down, sneekee camo hat, and wrangler pants with the built in snake proof leggins in the middle of june asking you if would come out and quote them a bid on a home improvement project. even worse is that he's not a respectable looking guy, he's always the sweaty 40 lb overweight guy spitting chew into the show plants when he thinks nobodys looking, telling his kids if they don't settle down he's gonna go get the hose.

another one that gets me is when i see 4 wheel drive trucks pulling mules and 4 wheelers and jeeps. i know its none of my business what you choose to do with your vehicles, but why buy a 4 wheel drive if your not going to use it?

these are a few of mine, i'm sure a few of you can chime in and add yours

The loudmouths that come to my favorite steakhouses on weekends. Some you can hear before they get out of their pickups, the worse are the ones that start complaining about everything not being like at such and such place. Well if it is so good at such and such place why did they come and ruin our dinner with their loud talking and complaining? Because all they do is complain.

My greatest pet peeve is when you get to a spot to duck hunt 3 hours before sunrise, set all your gear, and then 15 minutes before shooting light some jackass comes and sets up 50 yards from you. It seems that these are the same people that blow their call all morning, especially when you have birds working your decoys. That is what I get for hunting public water.

Thought I would add one more. Whenever I go to Academy or other large gun dealers, the kid behind the counter tries to tell me that he has every gun that is in the store, has a 10,000-acre south Texas ranch (which he owns), and constantly tries to "one-up" everyone in the store. I hate to break it to you retail store employees, but your job is no more important than the greeter at Wal-Mart, and WOW you bought $25K worth of brand new guns on $7 per hour. Shut up and go stock some shelves.

My pet peeves:

1. People that judge how I hunt.
2. People that judge what I drive.
3. People that judge why I hunt.
4. people that judge where I hunt.
5. People that judge what I wear.
6. People that judge what deer I shoot.
7. People that judge what gun (or bow) I shoot.
8. People that don't agree that I'm right all the time.

Practice doesn’t make perfect.
Practice makes permanent.

May I ask why you care what others do that have no bearing on your life or your hunting? Not trying to be a jerk but those things you mentioned are what makes Texas, Texas in some cases.

Some of mine:

Buddies wanted to leave after not seeing a duck for 15 minutes. Then we are picking up the dekes and a flock lands on us. And another flock comes in as we are driving away.

Kids mudding the county roads while I am hunting.

Rancher driving through honking at 8 am to feed when they drove past my car 1/2 mile away where the cows are.

Loosing birds when you swear you marked it right there.

Mojo wing popping off.

Lightening!!! I have that stuff. You'll see me running while everyone else stands around with their barrels in the air.

One that doesn't impact me directly right now but leases asking for way too many guns on set acreage. Go back to the per acre pricing please and limit # of guns based on actual deer populations. Shoot some does!

I have a 4X4 abd take my 4 wheeler with me hunting. I need it to drag critters out of the woods and sloughs. Also to fill feeders, set up stands etc.
I dont need my 4X4 truck everyday but when it is needed, it is worth every penny to me.

In my younger days I would pick up my friend to go deer hunting. He would still smell of smoke and cologne from bar hopping the night before. We have both grown out of that.

Buddy killing his deer before me and wants me to use my 4 wheeler to get it. Why dont ya just get on it and go get your deer and leave me alone. Dude has keys to my house and truck etc yet always comes and gets me out of my stand to use the 4 wheeler. Leave me alone. Or I could acually just be peeved that he killed one first.

It ain't easy being me.

might feed yr round, might be that cool too!

I think the browning sticker has taken over as hey I'm a hunter... and if they own a browning sticker - they own something browning now don't they?

Any thing to do w/ the TTHA is GAY... that is the worst organization in the world next to PETA

some people think they are John wayne.... not much you can do about thes jack asses.. Although I'm frinds w/ a few of these types.... most lickly a product of thier upbringing....

I do this every weekend - what if a need the 4x4 truck to get into my camp and the atv to get around the land....

since you are going to make assumptions here is how you came across to me..

you hunt w/ a high $ gun, and you make it out about 3 times a yr in your 2 wheel drive toyota tocaoma, you got a brwoning sticker, TTHA sticker and a Bush for sprotsman sticker (even though you voted demecrate)on the back window. you hunt a high fenced 200 acres that you paid way to much for and the deer are pretty tame... if they are not you will case them down in the 2 wheel drive...

your hunting outfit is camo boxers, camo under armer, wool socks and rocky boots. outer camo is sentlock and you need all this b/c you hunt from a condo stand w/ the heater on on a high fence.... phh and a browning ball cap...

PS.. the taxidermist can remove that ear tag for you....

TXTRP85 - you may not be this way but when you get on here and judge other hunter it make you look like a real jack [censored] - you have no idea what they own, how they hunt what they need or were they are going w/ thier truck atv... they might be a farmer and not a hunter....

My two, and this is from the viewpoint of someone guiding others.

1. Hunters not being mentally ready to take a shot when the opportunity presents itsself.

2. Hunters that insist on glassing with their rifle scope, and setting said scope on its highest power setting, and then not being able to get the crosshairs on an animal that walks out broadside at 50 to 75 yards, because the scope is set on too high a magnifacation level.

JMO.

People that dont practice gun safety or have any hunting ethics. The 1st gripe only happens once and the GW handles the second if its habitual.

actually, i hunt with a $500 ruger MkII witha $185 redfield. i make it out and around the ranch 3 times a month and do it with my 4 wheel drive ford. i have no stickers on my truck, did't vote last election and hunt a 900 acre ranch that i pay nothing for.

i did't judge anyone, nor did i make a statement on how to pick out random hunters to criticize them. as for the sticker issue, i would have to know the person pretty well to make that call would't I ?

i don't know anybody who corns the roads year round in a 40 thousand dollar diesel truck, and alot of farmers drive 2 wheel drive, because they own a 4 wheeler.

as for my garb, i usually only wear wranglers, snake boots and a old bushlan button down with a sportsmans warehouse ball cap.

and as far as peeves for guides go, i think chc's first statement is among the most aggrevating thing out there.

glassing with a scope is pretty annoying as well

a good way to deal with this is buy a bunch of those cheap rechargable lanterns and set them up around where you are setting up early n the morning so when those a-holes try to come in it looks like there are already way too many hunters there. oh yea set the lanterns on the dimest seting so they dont stand out once the sun comes up

what really gets me is people that hunt with no knowledge of what there doing after they kill.....I have a few buddies that still don't know how to field dress anything....one buddy would bring his deer home (30 minute drive) to field dress them at home....my wife would kill me....

also my cousins that don't do jack crap during the off season....granted it's there land but they could have so much more....

All good ones. One of mine is practice...people that have a rifle, get it out Oct 31 and carry it all year, finally fire at a nice one in early December, only to find out the gun is off from setting in the closet/safe.

The other is a guy that struggles to pass me when I am doing 3-5 over the speed limit, passes me dangerously or in a no passing or while meeting cars, then either turns off in a half mile or doesn't realize there's a stop sign or red light in a mile and we end up 10 feet from each other again.

As for the judging others, I took most of whats been said as humor. If its a pet peeve that someone doesn't like what I drive or what I wear, I don't care. (Those that know me, will attest, I don't care!)

For the record, I have some nice camo casual clothes and camo shirts that have our company name embriodered on them, and I wear them some out of season. These are way too nice to wear hunting! I have some camo there too.

As for the vehicles, I carry a 4 wheeler in a truck sometimes, can't afford to have one each and every place I go, so I have to carry it. I'll do this a lot in the spring, realize that I coach baseball and have to prep the field a lot. Normally the mower can do it, but if its a little damp I need the four wheeler. I have a couple 4x4's, a nice one that's not going places and a rougher one that I will drive LOTS of places, but sometimes a 4 wheeler makes a smaller impact and can get a few more places than the truck.

Oh, and my stickers say "Fred Thompson for President" now.

Big PP. People who say they hunt for meat (beef is a hell of a lot cheaper). It's been my experience these are people who can't kill big deer.

People who shoot the first 2 1/2 yr old 8 point and then cry about not having any big deer on their place.

My number one pet peeve are those people whom I drop off at 3:00p.m. in the afternoon and I hear them shoot at 3:15p.m. while I'm walking to my blind, in South Texas, 90 degrees outside. Go to pick them up at dark and find that they have shot a doe!!! It has been laying there for 3 hours or more, not field dressed. Then you get the deer to camp and they want to drink a beer or two and smoke a couple of cigarettes before they clean it and hang it in the cooler. Then they wonder why the meat tastes funny and their wives do not want anything to do with deer meat!! WTF?
