I am wanting to get into reloading and was wondering if anyone has a load that works for them on the 257 WBY Mag? I would like any information such as powder, bullets, primers etc... Right now I am a sponge on any information someone could give me on this, I will greatly appreciate anything you guys could give me.

Thanks,

no idea on the load but I will tell you the factory loads with 80gr ttsx's are awesome !!!

Not the fastest load for it but when I was reloading some for this cartridge 72gr H1000 with a 115gr Nosler partition and Federal 215 primer was an accurate load. I had plenty of that powder so we burned some up on those loads.

I tested alot of powders and bullets with mine and even did it with 26" barrel and with 24" after I got it back from kampfeld.

Things I learned

1. you only loose 40fps when you use a 24" vs 26" barrel

2. ALWAYS USE MAGNUM PRIMERS!!!!- The powder loads are large and some times a large rifle primer will ignite them....but alot of times they wont so save your self the headach and always use magnum primers.

3.The best load I have found is an exact copy of Weatherbys factory 100gr TSX load...and that load is

4. Im just not a fan of the H1000 powder, sorry but it just never performed for me

100gr TSX bullet
REloader 22 powder
Winchester magnum rifle primer

dont remember the charge weight but it is 1 full grain below max from Barnes load data and the chrono graphed velocity of this round is 3,550fps on average which is the same as factory

and if your working with once fired brass from another rifle always full size resize it, and from then on for both new brass and brass fired through your rifle NECK SIZE ONLY it will increase your brass life greatly

I use the following load and I'm very happy with it, the bullet is devistating.
Nosler 115gr BST
Federal Mag primer
Imr 7828 powder 73.5 grains

this matches the factory load as best a possible. It's my understanding the powder that weatherby uses is Norma, but I dont know witch one. Mabey someone can add some info.

Rem. action Shilen barrel, THIS IS OVER MAX!!! But no pressure signs, and 5 rounds in an dime, with sporter contour barrel.
DO NOT LOAD OVER MAX!!! START WITH THE LOADS IN LISTED DATA!!

it looks like i will finally take the plunge and buy a reloading kit this year. deewayne2003 - how much harder is it to cycle the reloaded neck sized brass? i have read good reports with these 3 powders for the 257 wby: RL 22 & 25 and IMR 7828

i have been using the factory 80ttsx, but will probably go with the 100gr ttsx when i get into reloading.

You may feel a little resistance depending on how tight your chamber was reamed but its no problem what so ever and you probably wont notice the difference.

The 3 powders you mentioned are great I use RL22 in my .257wby &. IMR7828 in my .300wby

I use RL25 with 100 gr Nosler partitions. Still working on the load. I have not got the groups as tight as I would like. I use magnum primers.

IMR-7828 is your brew for the 257.

Heres the new load from Weatherby, I think they brought this out because if you sell a $400 vangaurd in .257wby then it looks bad when the shells cost 25% of what the gun costs lol

at the very least its a good hog round and source of brass

I thought 6.5x284 brass was high until I got this 257 Wby., even higher than my 6.5 Grendel brass!!
