I am posting an available lease for a good friend Rancher/Owner in Crockett County. I currently lease 2700 acres from him and relatively close to the lease that is available for 2011 season.

This is an EXCELLENT opportunity for serious inquiries ONLY ! I am not being a jerk, but I know how good this place is, and want to deal with serious people who can work with Rancher to maximize deer herd and work together to accomplish this goal. This year there was a 160 class deer killed and I am waiting on pictures to verify the score. Bucks in the 120 – 140 class should not be uncommon.

Available is 3500 acres on an excellent draw located outside of Ozona, Texas for SEVEN hunters. Limited guests/family is allowed but must shoot off principals tags. Terrain is typical West Texas with high deep draws and mesas. The main draw on the property is lined with some oaks, but majority of cover is cedar and mesquite. The property has a high population of deer and turkey. Quail, hogs and predators are also present . Two weeks ago a sizeable lion track was also found on this place. I saw the property last weekend and saw deer and turkey while driving through property.

A nice amount of water and windmills are available on this 3500 acres. Exact number of water stations is unknown by me. There are 61 cows on the whole 3500 acres, no sheep goats, etc….

The property has been leased by the same group for the past 30 years. New hunters will be responsible for trophy management, and protein feed in the form of cotton seed and protein pellets. This can be discussed with Rancher as to how and when optimal times will be, but a good effort must be made to take advantage of Trophy Management.

Lease is $21,000.00 TOTAL
$3,000.00 per man. Prefer ONE Group of guys who know each other
Each hunter may take 1 Trophy Buck (4.5 years old and 8 points or better)
1 Cull 4.5 years old with 7 points or less
12-20 does based on hunters and rancher communication on numbers observed

There is water and electricity, but not in the same location on the ranch. You could discuss options of getting them in one central location. This may have to be done at hunters expense, or possible split.

I know this ranch he speaks of. Not only is it a great piece of property, but it has a great rancher as well. That's as hard to find as a good lease.

Is this north or south of I10? What draw is this property along?

Hi Aussie 1, I do not know the name of the draw. It could be dry devils river though.

I hunted a ranch off Taylor Box rd east of town and south of I10. The ranch is located on the Baggett Draw. Some of the best hunting I've done but can do without the drive.

You are certainly in the right area for Baggett, and it very well could be. It hunts very big and having the draw is a HUGE plus in that country. Will be going back in February and will post some pics. Thanks for all the inquiries, this is a great place to post and everyone has been very professional.

I do alot of work ioff Taylor Box, I spend a week a month in Ozona. I've seen lots of nice deer in this area.

I'm not sure of the ranch names exactly, more so with lease (oilfield) names. But I have worked the Bailey, Rouselout, Henderson, and some more. Stretching out from I10 all down Tayor Box and Turkey Roost. and for several miles into the Ranch that Tayler Box dead ends into. Then some places from Howard Draw, to Pandell Road, and on out to Juno.

Some great looking country I sure miss hunting there.

It is some great country! I've seen big deer there, but all out the window of a work truck. I've never had the pleasure to hunt there!

Hey Deecee, you know your ranches out there. My personal place is off Howards Draw 2 miles South of I10. It is the 7N Ranch. the 3500 acres is approximately 20-25 miles further South on Howards Draw and is part of Howards Well. Sound familiar ???

I'm more familiar with where your place is, I haven't been quite that far out Howard Draw very often, my work partner handles the wells out there usually. But all of that area there is awesome. I don't think a man could go wrong hunting there! Just my unprofessional opinion! Lol

We love it !! LOTS of good deer, quail and turkey. The oil field guy we have become friends with is Tony. cannot think of his last name right now but a great guy who always stops by the cabin and tells us where he has seen the biggest deer. thanks for your input, kinda jealous you get to spend all that time out there in that country.
