Yes, it's another one of these threads. I went through the past pages and couldn't really find anything that answered my questions.
First off, I know I need to go to a bow shop and have them set me up, etc. That's what I've gathered from the stuff I've read.
However, I want a few recommendations as far as what bows I should look into (just what you guys seem to like, so I can get a start on what to expect), accessories (not sure what the new hot stuff is), and how much I can expect to pay for all this. I'm really out of the loop now a days on bow hunting.
I had a bow when I was younger, however now that I'm 6'3", that bow has been given to another youth.
Pretty much looking for a setup to take deer, javelina, predators, etc. Nothing huge.

Most companies make a good bow these days. Matthews, Bowtech, Parker, Hoyt, Diamond, etc. Try as many as you can, I really like the way the Parkers "feel" but many bash them as a 'bargain' bow. Try em all and enjoy the sport.

I just bought a Darton Pro 3000 (last years hot rod) it is the most amazing bow I have ever shot. It is shooting 275 fps with a 27" hunting arrow at 54 lbs. I have never shot a bow that is more forgiving than this bow. I shot the 3800 (this years hot rod) before I bought this bow and like the 3000 better. I would look and see if you can find one and go shoot it you can get one for about half price of this years model.
Death is certain and the end is always near.

I had a hard time shooting any bows in the San Antonio area bow shops so I did A LOT of research and landed a SUHWEET deal on a 2008.5 Elite Z28. I knew my draw length an about what poundage I could pull from a buddies bow...
If you are looking for a decent bow new with sight, rest and stab you are loooking at close to 800-1200 or more... I went used with this bow ready to hunt for under 500.... Try the classifieds on this forum as well as archerytalk.com forums... Great knowledge on both of these forums!!!
Be prepared to learn a lot! I sure have in the month or so I have been back at it!

What about arrows? I know carbon arrows were coming on pretty well back then.

I am grouping Gold Tip XT Hunters (100% carbon) 29" 5575 very nicely... I have a pic on a thread somewhere on this section with 3 arrows real tight at 20 yards on day 3 of my journey back into archery!!

if you choose to go with an Elite bow remember the used ones also carry a lifetime transferable warranty (only company that does this) and some good deals can be found if you like the way they shoot

Well the one I had before was a PSE. Very fun bow, albeit a bit loud.
What's new on the market as far as strings, silencers, etc. go? Anything that is a must have?
I had a wiskerbisket and one of those sights that have the pins lined up vertically on my old bow and really liked that.

Bought a used 2008 model Switchback XT and had the warranty transferred into my name.

"Q. Is there any warranty on a bow purchased online & is there any way to transfer the warranty of a Mathews bow? No. The Mathews bow warranty ONLY applies to the original owner of a bow when it’s purchased from an authorized Mathews retailer. There is no way to transfer a warranty or purchase warranty for a used bow. If you are purchasing a gift you will be encouraged by your retailer to register the bow to the person receiving the gift, not the purchaser"
This is directly from the mathews sight.. I tried when I had one
They do have a couple bows I liked, but not like the bow Im shooting now.. Of course I havent shot any of the new ones, but hope to soon.. I may end up with another one

I had the warranty transferred through the dealer the bow was originally bought from. So don't try to make me out to be a liar, it won't work.

I would never do such a thing. I was simply pointing out the mistake made on their website. For the person looking for real info others have said it, shoot as many as you can no one brand makes a bow for everyone.

It boils down to user preference... And a little peer pressure.

go shoot as many as you can, then make up your mind on the one you want, one that fits you X2.. Kinda like people asking what the most accurate rifle is?? Well, it's the one you're most comfortable with. So try out as many as you can.. Then, come back to a bowtech!!! LMAO.. You know I had to do it!

Give the little guys a look (HCA, Darton, APA, Alpine, Parker, etc). You can find these bows with the same specs as the "big boys". My first bow was a Parker Hunter Mag 70#@ 30in draw. Wasn't too fast at around 270 fps, but got pass thrus on everything I shot with it. My second bow was an HCA Iron Mace. This was my first dual cam speed bow and that joker was smoking fast and forgiving too with a brace height of a little over 7 in. I shot in the 300's fps with 420 grain arrows and shot a whooping 373 fps with the Speed Pro arrows (5.5 gpi)! I was never a Mathews fan but ending up buy a Monster for a really good deal. I like speed and my Monster slings a 510 gr arrow at 308 fps. That equals well over 100# of KE. Just bought some lighter GT's and I'm curious to see what kind of speed I'm getting out of it. And for a speed bow, it's pretty darn quite (but I had to make it that way).

I don't bash any bow companies out there, but I must say that from reading on other forums and talking with friends who own them, Bowtech limbs are subject to crack and explode. I know a lot of proshops who call them "Blowtechs".
