Lots of weather geeks (I'm one of 'em) chirping yesterday and today about a potentially historic arctic air outbreak that may dump southward into Texas early next week.

Earlier, one model had Dallas with a high of around 10 and a sub-zero low toward the middle of next week. Probably will not be THAT cold, but the idea is that this is one big-time arctic blast that could be coming this way.

Another model had this arctic high pegged at 1070 milibars. To put that in perspective, the Dec. 1983 high measured 1063-mb in Montana. And the highest pressure reading ever recorded in North America was in 1989 in Alaska at 1078-mb.

In other words, if any of these model forecasts materialize, expect two things:

1. A HUGE push of ducks into the state.
2. A big, big freeze that could end the season early in the North.

I'm all for colder air and more ducks down here !!!

Yea, I've seen the weather people talk about that here. But with my weather people experience, well my grandmother said "only fools and yankees try to guess weather in Texas." Around here, we're short on fresh water, no rain. A hard freeze will kill alot of the winter wheat. Which means, those ducks will keep heading further south. Myself, I'm a duck hunter and by God, I'll be out there chasing those birds!! Bring on the cold weather! Those weather people must get it right sooner or later! Happy hunitng Hockeyman!

Talked to Jim Lillis of Ducks Unlimited earlier today. He said a colleague of his in northern Oklahoma told him that there are a ton of ducks in northern Oklahoma and much of Kansas.

Bring it on - we need a big arctic blast to flush those ducks down here into Texas!!!

Saw this on the weather last nite also. Checked 3 weather forcast today for next week- weather.com/NWS/Accuweather and all 3 had a different forecast! The weather on tv said mid week next week, but I'm betting money on next weekend! Kindof like last year when they said a chance of rain and we had 14" of snow Christmas eve.

My buddy drove through Kansas after Christmas and couldn't believe the amount of fowl in the area. Bring it.

Ya my cousin called and told me to get my arse up there before the freezes hit and the ponds are solid... He said never seen so many ducks...every pond it loaded....

Got truck and gas card. Oh and I'm off all next week.

In general, "point-and-click" forecasts like those from Weather.com and Accuweather.com aren't worth the electricity it takes to power them. Seriously.

if I wasn't going elk hunting this weekend I would pick you up and head north... I've got the itch bad.. Weekend after next I'm takening my dad doe hunting.. not even watching a thousand mallards sit down in from of me will make me miss that one!!

Then on the 21st the wife is up in the my ear about going to chase ditch chickens... She won't listen to me abot it being minus 100 degrees up there right now..i'm afraid my duck hunting might be done this year

I drove up thru Missouri at Christmas. There were a lot of fowl there too! I could not belive how many were in the area of Kansas City! We are due for a cold blast............ bring it on!
