Im a newbie to duck hunting and I have been given permission to hunt a 2-3 acre pond that I have been seeing some ducks on, mainly mallards and gadwalls. To the north of this large pond is a smaller pond, maybe only 100 feet across and 2 feet deep, that normally has about fifty ducks on it. I want to hunt this large pond with decoys, but I also want to bring in the birds from the other pond. What should I do?

I would hunt the small pond if you can hide there.

Do you think this pond would be good for a morning hunt? It was the afternoon when I scouted all the ducks.

Morning!!! up Get there 1 hour before LST and have all your set up done and in the blind no less than 30 min. before LST. Hunker down and go silent till LST before you start calling. Big key is to have some kind of motion decoy/decoys on the water. Good luck! I have always preferd hunting stock tanks over big lakes.

Key also is to hide well. Use natural material from your surroundings and pile it on thick. This has really helped me. I used to think the ducks didnt like my decoys, but since i've doubled down on concealment with same decoys ive doubled my success.

P.S. to get birds from both locations you'll need to PM me so I can hunt one pond while you're on the other and we'll bounce them back and forth.

Seriously though this has worked for me in the past.
