New to the board and I am wondering if anyone else on the board hunts close to me. I am in northern Medina County adjacent to the Hill Country State Natural Area. I have hunted this ranch since 1998 and have seen many changes in terms of the numbers of deer. It seems that we have possibly had significant die-offs as our numbers that we see are greatly reduced. Interesting thing is that our weights have gone from bucks dressing 90-100 lbs to 115-130 lbs.

My uncle lives in Medina trust me the numbers are there. I don't think there was a die-off but it has been an odd year for seeing deer there this year. weights are from all the millions of acorns this year.

Welcome to THF.

Smaller population = less compition for food = higher body weights.

Everyone better shooting every coyote you see. We have caught 2 in the last week in snares. Had 3 deer killed during the summer by coyotes. They are getting smart and are starting to run the deer up against the high fence where they can't get away. Shoot a coyote and save at least 1 deer and probably more.

Actually the numbers of deer we have been seeing the last three years have been down substantially. This year the numbers were up a bit. And we didnt have much of an acorn crop on our place.

I have never seen a coyote on this place. Earlier this week was the first time in several years that I have even heard them.

I never see them either until they are in a snare.

Do you hunt in the area? If so, where?

Nice. I can't imagine living there and then leaving. I absolutely love that area.

Well I wished I had not sold it but they added another subdivision to my north and west and to many people and traffic for me. I like solitude!

We have caught several yotes in our snares and we found a dead nubbin buck 3 days ago not sure of the cause of death but yotes had started eaten on it.
