I've used it for around 10 years and never had a problem.

I've used it for years. DO NOT use it on herding breeds (australian shepherds, german shepherds...) as it will kill them within 24 hours.

Who uses it and have you had any problems. Ivermectin is the active ingredient in cattle Ivomec, as well as in most commercial heartworm preventatives for dogs. You can use Ivomec on your dogs....just make sure you calculate the dosage correctly. If you miscalculate, the result could be quite expensive. FWIW, if you faithfully give HW preventative purchased from a veterinarian, and if your dog contracts heartworms despite this, the manufacturer of your heartworm medicine will likely help you out with the costs to treat your dog. If you concoct your own HW meds, you are on your own, of course. So keep this in mind.

I've used it for about 6 years now with no problems. I have a few friends that have used it for much longer & many more dogs than me, that also have not had any problems. 1/10th CC for every 10 pounds. And listen to Jason.
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

Have 10 dogs that are all on ivermectin. One old pointer that will be 15 if she makes it until April. She still goes to the field with me and can still find a bird. I have used the 1/10 cc per 10 lbs dose given ORALLY all her life. (or actually, about 1/2 cc per month per pointer) Sound like it has done her any harm? Good for external parasites and ear mites as well. Apparently, the above warning about the shepherds and collies is valid. Dont use it on them.

I just put mine on a slice of bread, and spred on some soft margarine.

I have syringes with each dogs name on it, I get the dose they need into the syringe, suck it full with water & shoot in on the back of their tongue.

I do with no problems. Actually, I use Zimectrin Gold, it has ivermectin and praziquantel. It's a paste and I give the dose for 50 lbs.

I've used it for years. DO NOT use it on herding breeds (australian shepherds, german shepherds...) as it will kill them within 24 hours. Used Ivomec for years on our Labs - no problems. We use it WITH GREAT CAUTION on our Anatolian Shepherds. Like JB says, these breeds an be super sensitive to a lot of meds.

I cut 10 cc propylene glucol to 1 cc ivomectin and give 1 cc of the mix per 40 lbs of body weight and have been using it for 15 years at least with no problems.

This may sound like a duh to all of you but could someone please explain to me what you are talking about. I have always used the chewable from the vet. It is expensive, though. This sounds like it is a cheaper alternative. Where do you buy it and in what form( powder or liquid)? Thanks so much for helping out this green horn. ha!

it's a parasite killer meant for cattle. works on heartworms for dogs and some mites. the active ingredient is ivermectin, which is what the collies and shepards do not tolerate well. i usually use it along with something like safegaurd goat wormer, which takes care of intestinal worms. another way to go is either zimectrin gold or equimax, has the same stuff, just gotta be careful not to overdose. a glob about the size of a peanut m&m will worm a good sized dog.

What we are talking about is the injectable ivermectin or Ivomec for cattle. However, you don't inject it, you put it on their food, or as I do, draw it into a syringe for accuracy and then squirt it into their mouth.. You give 1/10 of 1 mg. (or cc.)per 10 lbs. of dog once per month. So, a fifty lb. dog would receive 1/2 mg. or cc. per month. You can see how the savings would add up if you are currently buying doses from the vet. Just be sure to not use it on the herding breeds.

I do just like Double B20 I use the Zimectrin Gold Paste for horses. Easy to use. I just put a spot about the size of an Englih Pea on a tongue depressor and swab on the back of the tongue. Never any problems with heartworms, tapeworms or any kind of worms. About $11. for a tube and it last for a year!

I use it, but since it doesn't cover tapeworms I bi-annually give a regular wormer. I plan on switching to the Zimectrin when my current supply runs out.
