Headed out Monday 12/27 and got back today (Thurs) 12/30.

Monday evening saw good movement and saw a very nice 140's 10 pt. but was only 3.5-4.5 year old. It was all down hill after that. Winds whipped up into the 30's from the SSE and kept up the entire time. Temps warmed steadily and finally broke into the 80's today coupled with the wind. Little to no deer movement and certainly not what we are accustomed to. Also noted a marked absence of mature bucks that were ever present in the previous weeks.

Anyone else have similar experience? Better? Worse?

This was supposed to be our week for the peak rut but saw very little chasing going on.

Hunted 21st-24th, Dimmit County, Rut should have been going, rattled a lot and only rattled up 2 young bucks. Hunting was horrible, saw no bucks over 3.5. Was there by myself and ended up hunting all day, pretty poor.

Yep, bad when your time off mirrors the worst possible time to be in the field

I'm going in a couple days. Plan on staying down there for at least 3-4 days.

I'm gonna hold off next week and then try again the following week. Gonna try to time my trip with a cold front. Hopefully ol' man winter will wake his arse up and head to S.Tx.

i haven't been out since i shot my buck on the 10th. uncle and his neighbors kid shot a nice mature 8 the other day when it was cooler and drizzly, but the heat the past few days has kept me home.

i'ma try and make it out early next week

I hunted in Duval county wed. and thursday this week.
Bucks were pushing does. Buddy shot a nice 10 pt. Thursday morning chasing a doe.
Mornings were very cool. Light fog. Afternoons were vey hot in the mid to upper 80s.
I did get 2 hogs with one shot though.
Animals seemed to be moving late.

Hunting north of freer near seven sisters off county road 407. Saw 1 buck last evening and just now had a doe walk out of the brush to feed on acorns we laid out. She was chased out by a small buck really fast. Suns barely coming up, hopefully something else shows.

On our place it's common to see 8-12 bucks per sit. This last week you'd be lucky to see 4 youngsters. No doubt in my mind that the weather shut 'em down.

I've got to work this next week but the week after is wide open and I'll be in the stand again.
