Nothing bad about mine. My in-laws bought me a 25-06 for Christmas. He pretended that he was interested in by a rifle but didn't know a lot about them (which is true). He asked for my opinion and we went looking for rifles. We bought him(me)a Weatherby VG1 25-06. Imagine my reaction when I found out I was shopping for my own rifle. up

I need some advice about rounds. I will be shooting whitetail, pig and maybe axis. My choices around here are Remmington 100 grain core-lokt, 120 grain core-lokt or winchester 115 grain silver ballistic tip (do not like ballistic tip).

What are you thoughts and what are you shooting?

Might look into the Hornadys light mag loads, I like em alot for my 270, and I believe they make them for the 2506 as well

Is there a lot of meat damage with this round?

I use the Hornady 117 grain BTSP. They seem to work great for the deer around here! Very acurate! You've got a great gun for Texas size deer! Enjoy!

3 of us in my family shoot 25-06's. We handload 117 grain Sierra Gamekings and they do a great job on hogs and deer. Closest factory round to it is Federal premiums with the same bullet. Shoots right at 3000 fps and I have killed deer from 15 yds to 300+ and none of them have gone 40 yds. We recently picked up some Berger VLD in 115 to try but havent loaded any yet. The 115 Nosler Ballisic tips shoot well too but I am not a fan of them ...

I bought some winchester silver ballistic tips, just because he was selling them so cheap.
My gun really doesn't like them.
I have shot several hogs, and a doe.
They preformed pretty good, but had some meat damage.

Accubond should perform well... 100gr isn't too light.. would look at the 100gr TSX

I've been using 120gr Core-Lokts for a long time and have no complaints.

this one... I bought a new 25-06 this year, and was shooting 3/4" (or smaller when everything is right) groups right off the bat with this round. There might be a more accurate round out there, but this one is great. I've killed a few deer with it this year, a couple pigs, and a bobcat. did a great job on the deer. I don't think I've ever found a round that quick, that shoots that well as I did with this round and rifle.

I wouldn't use a ballistic tip in a bullet that small. In a 7mm or .30 caliber, that's one thing... but you're already using a light bullet, I wouldn't pick one that has little controlled expansion.

I'm really liking the 25-06 more and more. I've only shot does with it so far... due to my magnum complex, but it's being overcome pretty quick.

I would use

1. 100gr. TSX
2. 115gr accubonds or partitions

these are not in order, any of them would be a fine choice.

Is there a lot of meat damage with this round?

If you hit them square in the front shoulder there is considerable meat damage. Learned this one the hard way! I prefer the neck shot and have very little damaged meat with this shot.

100gr or 117gr are fine for .25-06. Don't let the bullet size fool you. Many a whitetail has fallen to them and with clean kills.
