I now have a Yamaha 660 Grizzly and am thinking of trading for a UTV. I need the pros & cons of a UTV compared to an ATV. I hunt in Sulphur River bottoms with a lot of gumbo mud. I will not be using it to ford creeks and such but will at times have it in flood waters on the ranch roads. I don't know much at all about the UTV's so any and all opinions are welcomed. Thanks

UTVs can carry 2-3 people, the bed can carry from 400-1000 pounds of corn/wood/rocks/sand/tools/game animals, you drive a UTV not ride it, my Yamaha Rhino will go any place my Polaris ATV would, you stay drier and warmer in a UTV, I would never go back to an ATV.

You can use a UTV around the house and farm.

ATV is smaller, lighter and narrower...all are good qualities. UTV will be bigger, heaver and wider. My Ranger is 5 feet wide, very stable, it weighs 1200 lbs so it's a little harder to haul to lease. It will pull 1500# or carry 1000#. It will out work any atv on any work you will do on any lease.

X2 plus you have a bench seat which adds comfort to your ride at the end of a long day it will make your back glad.

It depends on the land. It would take alot of work on my place to widen or re-route the trails in the woods. If I was on alot of acreage with good trails I would have one. For everyone that says the can go anywhere an atv will go they can't, atleast stock they can't. I've pulled many out of mud holes and creek bottoms on my old place in east texas. It is more comfortable and nice having the bed in the back for tools or feed. I just use a little heavy duty yard trailer with big tires towed behind my atv and it will go anywhere the atv will. I have been to a couple of my buddie places in the hill country and south texas and they have utv's and they where nice to cruise around on, but they leave them there and not tow them back and forth everytime and have to worry about where to store it at home. An atv better suites me but I can see where a utv is better in other peoples situations.

We have both, it all depends on where you are hunting and how you are going to haul it out there. Personally, I like the Ranger..out on our place I've taken it everywhere I've had my 4 wheelers. Wife and kids like the 4 wheelers better, though.

we have both, as said before, it really depends on what you want to do. Our Mule will go just about anywhere, but not everywhere the ATV will. Granted our Mule is the LWB version with the back seat, so it doesn't turn as sharp and could high center. A lift and aggressive tires, and I wouldn't hesitate using it in river bottoms.

Think of UTVs as much like the old (original) WW2 Jeep.

They can take a couple guys and gear nearly anywhere.

ATVs are a little more agile, but only 1 guy and gear.

Had both and would not go back to atv,have ranger crew,will haul carry,pull almost anything you need to,plus you may run it under tax empemt if you got a farm or ranch.Good luck.Check out this web site,www.prcforum.com

I have had both. I now have a four seat Ranger and love it. My choice came to better ride, comfort on longer rides, staying dry and most importantly hauling feed and materials

Love me my Kubota RTV900.

I had 4 wheelers for years, and got a UTV 3 years ago. The UTV will go nearly as many places as a 4 wheeler. I have found more uses for the UTV than I thought I would. Having the bed makes it valuable to me for spraying Mesquites, bulding fence, working in the garden, etc. I kept the 02' Rubicon anyway and take it out every once in a while when I need to get under low tree limbs or usually just for the heck of it.

I had a 2007 Grizzly 700 EPS and sold it after I spent time with my Ranger Crew. I don't feel at all limited with the ranger in mud or rough terrain. Go to utube and look at some of the ranger crew videos in mud. They can hang with the atv's. The long wheel base helps in mud and rough terrain. Good luck with your decision.

There are just as many pros as cons for each, I have the ATV's but many friends of mine have UTV's and some are switching back to ATV's because the UTV tends to get stuck easier in east Texas mud. My 3 close friends have a Polaris, Kubota diesel, and Yamaha, of the 3 the best working one is the Kubota but the most fun to drive is the Yamaha. I will stick with my ATV's for a while longer, they are cheaper and still in running condition and I'm a believer in keeping a tool until it can't be fixed again.

X2. Have taken the orange beast through some stuff that I would not have taken my ATV through. Both would have made it but I am much drier using the Kubota.

If I could have gotten a UTV, I would have gotton a Mini Jap truck.

I have both, but my Honda Big Red gets the most use. It will go any where my atv will go as far as mud and stuff, it won't fit between some trees like my atv will it is over 5 feet wide. But it will climb a hill better than my atv. It will pull what ever I tie to it, and does much better on inclines sideways than my atv. Wish I would not have wasted my money on the atv, the utv is much better imo.

I have a decked out polaris sportsman and my buddy has a Kawasaki teryx we ride together often and I want a sidexside so bad now. He can take his family riding down nearly all the trails I go but he's got a cooler, bumper jack, shovel, tow straps, and all sorts of other things in the bed while doing it. They ride smooth and are just more convenient in my opinion. The down side for me is there priced a little high and on trails with branches hanging down you can't really dodge them like you could on a atv, you just have to duck your head and take it. All in all I would really love to buy a Polaris ranger because they are plush and to me are the top sidebyside on the market.

I have both and in my opinion there is no comaprison - UTV wins. You can haul more, do more, carry more gear etc.

An atv is better for trail riding, especially through wooded areas but a utv will be better for working purposes such as towing and hauling.

Windshield on UTV when it's freezing is the advantage.

The windshield AND the roof make the UTV quite comfortable. On the Mule, you can flip up the bottom purtion of the windshield, and it lest air in. That coupled with the roof makes it actually a decent rifde during the summer. Sure is nice not to have the sun beating down on you.
