I got my pup the first of the two series of rattle snake vaccines and the vet told me it may make a lump or boil type cyst. Well it did. It has been three weeks and it isn't going away. She goes back for a follow up monday. Is this normal or am I the lucky one? Will this lump go away?

in the new PDJ, there is an aside about the vaccine and how alot of vets are not doing it due it known effects. I have never done it or even snake breaking a dog. (knock on wood) I have never had an issue. I don't let a dog fool around the snaky looking places. I have spoted snakes before and heeled my dog , went around the bugger and went back to hunting.
pick up that PDJ. good luck kirk

this is normal, give it another week and it'll go away.
My GSP is on his third year of the SV and he has been bitten once with no ill effects. I am a firm believer in the vaccine and in snake proofing your dog, especially a pointing dog. Dog snake proof your pup until he is at least 10 months or so, it can be a pretty traumatic ordeal for a young pup.

There are no Known side effects other than a lump which will go away in due time. I can give you a hundred cases where dogs have been bitten with no protection and died. There has yet to be a dog death after he has been properly vaccinated. De-snake your dog and get the vaccine and keep up with the boosters. It will save your dogs life. It will save you hundreds upin hndreds in vet bills after a bite. I personally don't see how a person can ask their dog to do a job like they do and not be protected.

My dog gets those lumps after several vaccines, including rattlesnake, are administered and they usually go away in 3-4 weeks or so. Should start improving any day now.
