I have a 4 year old Lab that I would like to train to retrieve ducks. And I was wondering if the saying is true you can teach an old dog new tricks? The dog loves that water and will play fetch all day long. Just wondering if anyone had ever trained an older dog. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

They're not looking for one thing right....they're looking for one thing wrong.

No, shouldn't be to tough to train it. Get a few book, Evan Graham or Mike Lardy, join a retreiver club to get some hands on help and MAKE SURE YOU INTRODUCE GUNS SLOWLY to avoid the dog being gun shy. I think it'll work out well.

If the dog has a strong desire to retrieve I think you should be able to train her up! definitly get some literature and see what method you like best good luck!
