Not really. Good enough for a battle type rifle. I have one of the more accurate ones in fact the Norinco NHM 91, but AR15's run circles around them in accuracy. And other than competing, my use of a gun is hog hunting. And any serious hog hunter is gonna get nightvision and a suppressor and the AK makes a poor host for either. AK's are great for there intended purpose, a bullet hose, but you won't see anyone shooting prairie dogs with them.

Define 'pretty accurate' I have some medium and low quality AK's and they will take out pie-plate sized targets up to 200 meters all day long. They are no match for even the cheapest of cheap bolt-action rifles.

AK is a very loosely defined rifle. M70, RPK, MAK90, AKM, what are we talking here?
My M70 will consistently shoot 1.5-2" if I do my part. It likes Barnaul the best but eats anything I feed it.
DSS- Remember, that is your opinion. I am a very serious hog hunter. I passed on the AR in favor of the AK, not because I am a lover of the platform but because I am a lover of the cartridge. I know that the AR can be had in different calibers, but not at an affordable price. I can shoot Wolf Military Classic for $5/20 and it flat works. All of my shots occur at under 100 yards, and I do not hunt at night because I like to spot and stalk. The AR is a fine rifle, but God didn't create it on the 6th day, and even with a 77 gr projectile the .223 doesn't carry the same momentum that the 7.62 x 39 does.

Nightvision or silencer is not an opinion either, they are necessary for serious hog hunting (serious meaning being effective, more than one hog etc). Spot and stalk is limited to a few times before they turn nocturnal and move out of the area. Then it will be corn and night time stalking. A TSX is far more deadly than a POS FMJ any day of the week. You may then be the only serious hog hunter I know that uses an AK then.

Most "serious" hog hunters (you know, the ones who do it to feed their families) can't afford to plop down a grand on a rifle, a grand on NV, and nearly another grand on a suppressor.
You and I neither one have the time to hunt pigs so often that it changes their habits. I hunt once a week on Sunday afternoons and once the rains set in I can tell you pretty much within 200 yards where each of the large groups of pigs will be on my property.
I don't use FMJ. I use 8m3 loaded in Wolf Military Classic and I have posted threads showing its effectiveness. Barnaul soft points also expand reliably but are more difficult to find where I live.
Your experience doesn't define the world, and in my OPINION both the AR15 and the AK47 can be effectively employed when hunting pigs. I've done so. I choose the AK because it's more affordable, the cartridge it fires is more effective, and I'm not as worried about scratching it or dropping it in the mud.
Of course if you'd like to give me a suppressed AR with NV already attached and a case of TSX or OTM to prove me wrong I wouldn't say no...
Try Silver Bear 62gr soft points- if your rifle will feed them they are very effective.

Good points man.
I love spot and stalk, its my favorite. Problem at our place is that so many dang leaves its not possible right now. Hoping it ever rains again, then I can do it again. Until then, I am hitting the open fields and feeders.

There are leaves on KCs place and we managed to slay em. No night vision or silencer either and most during daylight. His AK did everything my AR did and did more damage. Go figure...

Thats lucky for yall there still being seen in daylight. I would take advantage of that, its not the norm. Scour all the forums you can for trail cam pics and you will see the overwhelming majority of hog pics are at night. They are nocturnal, but if you have a large enough place to hunt you can find them. Just like our denton place where my buddies killed over 20 during the day. But its getting harder and harder at that place to get them during the day. Dehoganotar, KMD, High Tech Rancher, and others on the different forums hunt them for a living. Almost every day and have to do it at night. The silencer just increases your odds of getting muliples in the same group. What ammo did you use? BTW KC, the SCAR H was made on the 6th day.LOL

DSS, I'm just speaking from my experiences hunting my hogs. I don't search other forums to see what other people are doing, I go out and do it myself because I enjoy hog hunting. I choose the weapon that best fits my needs- sometimes an AK, sometimes a Winchester 94 carbine. I don't need NV or a suppressor for multiple kills, I just take my time, know my land and my game, and get close enough to hit several before they get out of range. This thread isn't about a wee wee measuring contest, it's about those of us who enjoy the AK sharing our experiences. If you don't enjoy the AK, then feel free to start your own thread...
