Is there a way to boar site a rifle without a boar sighting kit. I have heard to tape a quarter to a wall and put your rifle in a vice. take the bolt out and align the barrel and scope to the quarter.

Thanks, Jigfish

I've had good success hitting paper with the first shot just by removing the bolt and sighting down the inside of the barrel with the open eye.

I've had decent luck boar sighting by throwing out some corn or running a feeder.

I've had decent luck bore sighting by removing the bolt and looking down the bore at my target. Has gotten me on paper everytime. I might try one of the laser bore sighters one day.

I take the bolt out and put a laser pointer in the bore - make sure you have a steady rest/clamp.

I have done it with a mini maglight before in a pinch. Secure gun and put the light in the action and if bore is pretty clean should get a good dot on the wall.

The word you're looking for is Bore.

I never use an official bore sighter..

just remove bolt, aim at a small target 50 yards out and align crosshairs to same target

go shoot on paper at 50 yards 1 time
aim at the same thing again, move crosshairs to intersect bullet hole.

shoot another time or two to verify then check 100, 200, etc..

dead on at 50 usually puts you 1.5-2" high at 100 which usually gets you back on at 200 for most cartridges

I bore sight a lot of guns. If I am in my shop I always use the sight down the barrel and align the scope system. I think it works better. I have a dot painted on a wall about 50 feet from the window of the shop. If you have a good vise or rest and the gun doesn't move it works good.

the 2 shot method works just fine, bore sight, shoot, adjust crosshairs to bullet hole, 2nd shot should be dead on. saves ammo.

Exactly right. Been doing it this way for years.
