still plannin on makin a trip to OSB in early may. will hunt with slugs, and try out my new muzzlelaoder. someone was tellin me though that the snakes just come outa the woodwork in east texas once the weather gets warm though. is that true out there? i'm not scared of a snake or two, but i can imagine they get thick in that river bottom. should i try and get some leggings? or is it not as bad as i've heard?

I think I'd invest in some leggings or good boots. Considering the fact that we had a "mild" winter and plenty of rain, I'd say the snake population will be prime this year. I've heard the OSB and surrounding areas have a fair share of shoulderless reptilian. Mainly the likes of copperheads and timber rattlers. LOL

The bottoms and creeks can be bad. But I havent seen any here where I hunt YET!

I worked at the OSB for acouple years on snake projects. There are plenty of them out there but never had a bad experience. One thing about hunting is that your not always looking at where you step. I havent' had a problem in several years of hog hunting into May. If it makes you feel better get some good boots or leggings.

Watch your step when walking around water edges for the moccasins. Step ON the log not next to it and watch the entrance to the armadillo burrows as its a little cool still and the snakes should stay fairly close to shelter. Copperheads could be anywhere. Timbers are rare and don't forget, state listed as endangered so don't mess with them. They leave you alone if you leave them alone.

If the forcst is right Sunday may be a little cloudy and monday is much cooler so Saturday is your best chance of seeing some good snakes.

i've got good boots. will probly get some leggings i think. if i dont already have some layin around somewhere. i've had a couple close calls with rattlers, and had a big cotton mouth on a trotline once. so i've learned to watch for snakes wherever i'm at. will probly be there sometime within the first 3 weeks of may. hope to hunt for 2-3 days. maybe see some of yall there.
