Hello everyone Im just sittin here blowing the dust off my hunting videos today watching it rain. Its that time of year when the fishing poles get a brake and the bow comes out. The only problem is my hunting land in red river county is being sold. Its been in the family since the 1800s the deed is still in ink. Its been passed down starting with my great great great grandfather and my last grandfather died about 7 years ago leaving the land to my grandmother. She always told us not to worry it will be in the family forever. Well little did we know she would meet Lamar the lowest SOB in the freakin universe. He has conned my grandmother to sale the land and her house to blow the money. She actually told us that was what it was for. I totally understand you cant bring it with you and lifes short specially her age, but its the principle and sentimental value of this 100 acres that let us atleast try to buy it. I myself am 26 I have been going there every year for 26 years my father for 38 years so we are completely torn apart by this. The only thing she did was give us 2 months to come up with the money actually i should say lamar. this land has a little house on it that she grew up in and we use for a getaway its the perfect place. My father and I could split the loan and could afford it but i live in an old trailer house with my wife and 2 year old which would make extremely hard to handle this payment while looing for a house. My father has put his house up for sale but it did not sale in the 2 months. He has also thought about taking his retirement out but he likes about 4 months before he can draw it without penalty and she or should i say he wont wait that long. We dont know what to do and its killing me. I really have no point or question in this just wanted you folks who have passion for hunting like we do and have the land to charish it. We will get some land one day and it will all work out but its those down time years that are going to get us. We are looking for leases but we are just to spoiled to having a place we can do anything we want with no lip. And as for this lamar a@#*#^# he has pretty much told the hole family what hes doing we are suppose to spend as much time with her as we can now because hes taking her. I just cant believe some people but anyways everyone have a great hunting season and surely i can get a good day lease or 2 in this year. -Jesse

i would find a shallow grave for this lamar guy. from what it sounds like nobody would miss him. if it were me, i would have a heart to heart with yourdad, any other family members and grandma, without lamar. explain to her what this land means to you and your family, and try to meet in the middle, come up with little longer timeline in which to get the $$$ to buy the land. i would also ask her what do you think grandpa would want to have happen to the land?
i know it hurts, i have some land that is inderectly tied to me and know that this day will come for me as well, hopefully far enough in the future for me to have the funds to do something about it

That's tough, and I've heard your kind of story before, and know what you are talking about.
Do what ever you can to buy the land, and that would mean even maybe leasing part are all of it out to help pay it off.
Good luck, and hope things work for you!
Thursday at 12:45 PM #33 Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

I feel fur ya. Seven of us had a lease and one of the guys worked for the owners for years. The owners said we could have the lease for as long as you want it. Then comes the daughter and her husband wants the lease to hunt with his friends. Well you know what happen then. We vacated the site and it took a couple of years but we found another lease. I would have that heart-to-heart with grandma. Good Luck.
Thanks,
