Since 1997 Ive owned at least 10 Remington M5, PSS or LRTs in various calibers. Every single one would hold well under MOA (most .5-.7) and had one that would consistantly hold .35 MOA , the triggers could be adjusted to roughly 2.5 pounds and never had one problem with any of them. Thats the only experience Ive had with Remington so I will keep buying them if it suits my needs...

Never seen or heard of any real problems until the recent media got ahold of them. Any problem ive seen is by poor work "adjusting" something
Accounts like these make me hate the internet. People want to jump on the negative bandwagon

Accounts like these make me hate the internet. People want to jump on the negative bandwagon lately they have been coming from the factory with issues....not safety issues, but rounds not chambering issues. EX: I picked up 2 SPS from BPS, got them 341.6miles from BPS to their 2nd to final destinations, tried to load 4 different kinds of ammo in them and the bolt would not close on either. Upper end of the Remmy line; no problems at all. Only real good thing about their cheap line 700s is that you can get a quick action to send to the custom shop (which is why BMD is campaigning to be the drop-off headquarters)

If it was me I would have made sure I went over it with a fine tooth comb after I found out there was a problem in the first place. I then would have kept on Remingtons CS until they made it right. Im not too sure even after all the mods you did I wouldnt continue up the ladder until I got samething done. But thats just me. Although Im not trying to get the quality of a $1000 rifle out a $500 either.

is the SPS the bottom of the line??? which is considered the acceptable line of 700's? rifleman, what is your advice on my situation? fix it myself or press remington to take it back for a rework, sounds like you have had some experience?

The SPS is on teh lower end, not the bottom, but definately not top quality. That being said Ive messed with a crap ton of SPS Tacticals and other than the tupperware stock and plastic trigger gaurd most have been good quality and very accurate for the money. My suggestion would be press Remington until you get your problem fixed...

You can spin it however you want but if you think a $500 rifle is going to be the same quality or even expect it to be for that matter you need to do a little more homework before your next firearm purchace. That being said anythig they sell should perform as its advertised and like I posted above, you should badger Remington until they make it right...

No matter what you pay for it therifle should still be free from dents and the bolt should open and close. If it wont even open and close then why be in the firearms industry?
I know it's not of custom rifle quality, don't think I'm saying that. Just that there are a few essential things you expect out of your guns.

I think that has be concluded, not sure what your getting at ? If I buy something that doesnt perform the way it is supose to Im gonna pitch such a damn fit something is going to be done. Thats what Ive suggested from my first post...

I push the XCR heavily because they are a great gun with very, very few problems (not talking XCR II, those have issues....which is why they show to be a cheaper "improvement" to the XCR). Real reason they discontinued XCR was because they just weren't selling the volume needed due to price, not b/c of quality...folks just thought they looked like some of the SPS rifles and went with those vs the better quality rifle, now the marketing goal was to pick up sponsors, drop the quality of the XCRII and push it almost at XCR prices...hoping that adding "bone collector or RMEF" would help push them.
I would keep on them until they fixed the problem because you didn't create the problem, it came on their end....and a quick fix on their part is a lot better than a lawsuit should you continue using their fine product. That whole "as soon as you touch the screws bit" is a load of BS and more than likely putting you off because they have been getting flooded with claims since they recently made the news again with old news.
Other guns to look into are the Alaskan TIs and the AWRs, straight BDL/CDL and swap out stocks while keeping with the timney trigger trend or XHR (if you are into triangle barrels).

We have several Remington rifles and that is all we buy. Sorry to hear that some have had problems. May happen here, but as of yet we have been very pleased with the Remington 700's.

same chambering issues... dropped down a little on their actions as far as smoothing them out and scratches show up on those coated barrels.

Remington's quality has slacked off over the years as they cater to box stores and price points.
They still build quality guns, but they are not the low end ones that are massed produced for marts and stuff...
Their semi-auto's are better than ever, the BDL 700's are fine, as are their upper end true Wingmasters and Premiers...

Same with their small bore stuff, their good 572 and 552 and upper stuff are great, their plastic semi auto cheap guns are, well, cheap.

My suggestion would be press Remington until you get your problem fixed... I agree, badger the heck out of them till they make it right. I have several 700s in different calibers, and have never had an issue. Of course these were purchased in the mid 80s good luck

You guys want to trash those Remingtons throw em out at my house X2 On the note of bolts not closing on the chamber, I can't tell you how many times guns have been braught back with his problem and through diagnosing problems in-house it was the back scope mount screws in the front action screw holes which are shorter and cause the bolt to bind on the screw. Not saying thats what happened in your case but its a very common mistake, like fliping springs in AR trigers. On the note of gun firing, I know Remington knows there is a problem and its sad they won't fix it. That being said, I have been around Remingtons all my life and never had it happen to anybody I personally know either and I have some high round count rifles. Accuracy from the SPS Tactical/Varmint guns as mentioned by Brandon is nothing short of amazing I have yet to sell/use one that would not shoot .75 MOA out of the box with good ammo and shooter.

I too have owned a LOT of Remingtons over the years. Never had any problems, maybe just luck on my part. The last one I bought was a 700 SPS 7mm-08 brand new from Academy this past year and everything went fine with it. I do keep hearing these kind of horror stories about Remington and it does make you wonder. More and more now I've been looking at the Sako and Tikka rifles and they are looking better all the time by comparison.

In '75 I bought a BDL in 25-06 that was maybe 2 years old. I loved it, never had a problem and I sold it in '89 ( stupid, stupid, stupid )
My Brother had an ADL in .270 . My dad was gonna shoot a deer one time with it and when he clicked the safety off, BOOM and the deer fell. Dad took it to town and the gunsmith said it was a common problem.
I was all set to get me a new BDL in 25-06 some time next year, but I have found out that Remington no longer makes that rifle in 25-06.
I am thinking I will either shop for an older model or after watching my son shoot his new Vanguard in .257 Weatherby today, I may go that route.

Yes this is a Known issue with Leuopld Bases, I already knew this, This particular problem in the OP has do due with what happens After a round is put down range, there are clear gouge marks on the casings from the burrs. UPDATE: I have been authorized to take to a local repair center, SO we shall see.......

How weird is that, that the 700 BDL is no longer chambered in .25-06? I thought that was a big seller for them.
