I currently shoot and 80'2 model Remington Sportsman 78 .270 caliber and a few years ago i bought a 300 weatherby vanguard because i had money to blow. I have since gotten rid of that gun (shells $ 50 a box, kicked like a mother, and blew whitetail up). My question is I want to buy another bolt action rifle and dont even know where to start. Do you guys have any solid recomendations? I am very fond of the .270 caliber but what manufacturers? Please Help

did you like the vanguard action? if so then the 270 would be a good choice in that rifle. i actually like the vanguard action. there are many good choices out there: browning, tikka, remington 700, winchester, savage and marlin etc..
it will come down to what you can afford to spend and then looking and trying out the actions to see what you like best.

yes, the 300 wby does have some recoil.

im leaning towards the remington 700. I liked the action just not the rest of the gun. I dont want a synthetic stock, im old school and want wood stock, classic looking rifle

remington 700 is a great choice as there are many after market options for it. you can get the vanguard in the deluxe version.

i would glass bed it. also look at the browning. the new xbolt is pretty nice. i love the browning action with the 60 degree bolt.

oh and welcome to the forum cheers

i would get a tikka. they are made by sako in finland. i have a tikka t-3 hunter 270 wsm and love it! it is the best rifle i have ever owned. i will not ever part with it. tikka's are super accurate, have awesome triggers, and actions as smooth as glass. they also come with factory bases and rings. they are not overly expensive. i dont think you could beat them.

Maybe I'm the only Winchester guy on here. My main rifle is a Winchester Mod 70 270 Carbine. I've shot a bunch of different rifles and have never found one that I like as much. I have a Leupold VX-L 4.5-14x56LR on it and it is batting 1000 between 200 and 400 yards.

Remington Model 700 XCR (not the junk XCRII)....grab one quick because they have been discontinued b/c of economic factors.

Consider buying used. Check out the Trading Post Forum here, .270 WCFs come up pretty frequently. Personally, I'd go for a '90s Rem. 700 BDL or Winchester Model 70.

Browning A-Bolt in whatever cal. you want. If you like the .270s look at a .270 wsm. You can go after anything short of a Grizzly with it and it wont be hard to find factory loaded bullets for it if you dont reload. Browning for me $ is the best buy out there. up

I forgot welcome

Lots of great rifles out there. I will, however, say that you have to handle a Tikka before you make a decision. They are awesome guns.

For a wood gun I would go with Browning A, Win 70, or even the T/C Icon.

I hear good things about Tikka's, but have yet to handle one.

TC Icon, Tikka T3, Kimber, Win 70, Browning. I would go somewhere and handle all I could before making the decision. Really like my Icopn and Tikkas these days

Bought a savage 270wsm from academy outdoors. Wondeful gun! I didn't like the silver tip 130 grain to much damage. Swapped to barnes 110 and load myself. Good range. Anyway got the gun for under 600
