I hunt in haskell county and we are putting in food plots for spring and fall next year. We have winter wheat that gets sometimes planted after the quality rains of September that we sometimes get.. My question is have any of you had any luck getting stands, growth, and results by planting one seed over another? Also what area you tried it and seed you used. We will be fertilizing but the water is hit and miss. Any info would be appreciated, thx!

See what your local feed store sells and they can usually tell you what grows good there. My local feed store has really helped me get going.

Contact your local county extension agent. He will be a good source of info.

Call Turner Seed in Breckenridge. They have several different blends and can tell you what would work best for you. I have been very pleased with their product

I'll second the vote on Turner Seed. Good folks and product.

I've tried a lot of stuff. Nothing that I've tried works better than wheat; when and if it rains.

winter wheat is going to be the good choice up there... folks would plant something else to graze their cattle on over the winter if it wasn't.
