Well I missed the biggest DEER i have ever seen on our place it was at least 4 to 6 inches outside the ears. Nothing coming to feeders decided to set on a hill by a fence line and above a tank so I can see along ways in case deer were moving. About 5:15 pm I looked over at the fence line where I put Doe in heat at and coming up the fence line there he was, man I was shaking so bad looking half way in the sun and no gun rest, I took a shot at him. Man I could kick myself for not waiting a little longer and using my seat as a gun rest, but you have to uderstand when you see a deer that good it affects you in a way that is hard to ubderstand and explain. You know those deer are old and wise that is why they survive to get that big, I took the shot at him at about 200 yards usually can shoot the eye lashes off of them but with the sun no gun rest and that big deer standing there and I am thinking he is fixin to jump the fence and run off I shot and I MISSED. I can still picture him in my mind the way he looked and how big he was, man that would have been great buck to take oh well we live to hunt again. It is going to be hard to pull the trigger on any thing else after seeing him, maybe I will get another shot at him next weekend in the post rut. Will definitly be setting there again and soaking the ground with doe in heat

I think everyone can understand what you are talking about. Corn the heck out of that area and maybe he will decide he likes that area to hang out in after the rut. Good luck getting another chance. Hope to see some pics.

Buck fever is a real condition. If you don't have it, then why hunt. I doubt if you will see that buck again, they usually run to the next county but you never know. Deep breaths next time and then B.R.A.S.S Breath Relax Aim Squeeze Softly. Take yourself back to basic mechanics.

Don't feel too bad, it happened to me last week as well. Hunting morning and evening since Monday and NOTHING coming out till Friday morning and sure enough the first thing that came out was a big eight and I missed. The bad part, the day before I had rechecked my gun to see if it was still sighted in and it was. The good part, a smaller 6 pointer came out in the evening and I was able to harvest him. The place I hunt is about 8 hours away so I was glad not to come empty handed at least.

Keep your head up. I had a buddy miss the biggest deer he'd ever shot at. He kept hunting the same spot and got him a couple of weeks later.

I missed the first 5 deer of y hunting life before I finally connected. I am thinking I didn't even aim on the first deer when I was 13. Buck fever like crazy but after I harvested my first deer I still get really excited but now I give the a dirt nap.

It's just plain ole common sense, but the more you practice shooting your rifle, the less likely you are to miss.
The point not to be missed is that frequent practice also helps calm the nerves when you need it most. Simply shouldering a rifle is enough to send the mind racing in the one who seldom goes through that motion. And likewise, the person who shoots frequently finds that shouldering their rifle helps calm their nerves when they need it most. Once they have that trophy in their scope, they "know" it's going down because of the confidence they have built through frequent practice.
Show me somone who truly enjoys shooting their rifle or bow throughout the year, and I'll show you someone who is far less likely to succumb to "Buck Fever".

Only thing worse than missing is NOT missing and not being able to find the buck.......did that a few weeks ago. Makes me sick to think about it.
