I have been on a lease with 5 buddies for 3 years now. We are 5 miles north of Comanche on 2247. We love it there. Don't see alot of deer, but usually see some everytime we go. I shot a 130 9 point opening weekend last year. Two years ago, my buddy shot a 150 23 point. Have alot of turkeys and some hogs. Yotes and cats everywhere. Even kill a few ducks on the tanks. The guy that own Miguel's restaurant, said he has 80 acres 1 mile north of town on 2247 and that he had a mountain lion on his place. He had a plaster print of a track in the restaurant. Been feeding protein and it seems to work. Just hard to get out there and keep the feeders filled. Snoball, you're right in my backyard! I heard about that 150" deer y'all killed a couple years ago. I bet I'm your neighbor.

Anybody got buck pictures yet for our county? We have cameras out but wont be able to check them until late July? Post'em!
Update: Our sunflowers are now blooming and the native seed mix we planted in the spirng is still growing. It will be soon time to start spraying and getting the food plots ready for late August.

Yawn - After a long summer's nap - it is time to start thinking about the season again. Our spring/summer plot started out well but really hit hard with the summer heat. It actually rained pretty good after we had left - not sure if the plot made it though until the good rains came a few weeks ago.

The majority of my hunting career started in Comanche on hwy 16 almost to Priddy. The place is high fenced now and there was a liquor store called "The Cave" right at the property border on 16. I even learned how to drive on that deer lease many moons ago. I loved that place. Anybody hunting on that end of town?

I spent last weekend all over eastern comanche county (gustine area) in corn fields watching the corn being harvested. Last year 90+ hogs were killed as they tried to escape the field, this year we only killed 5.
Lots of people are running helicopters for hogs in the area these days, particularly along the river.
Anyone hunt the Newburg area? Ive seen some very good bucks there this year.

I just got on a lease in northern Mills County. On 218, between Priddy and Zephyr. We've had cameras out for about 6 weeks now, but only catching young bucks and does. We have seen a bunch of deer out in the middle of the day though. Last weekend we saw some decent guys at night.

TxsOaks - After 7 years - We have moved from Comanche (Beattie) to Sutton County to hunt with a friend. We are sad to leave since we put a lot of effort into this place especially this past year. His place is much closer for us as we can be there in less than 2 hours as opposed to 4 hours to our lease in Beattie.
The amount of deer and Axis deer made this more appealing but I will miss the Ranch Owner and his family it was sad pulling out this past weekend.
If you are going to do it, give it your best!

We were hunting on a property owned by the Bingham family. If you follow that road by the peanut dryer all the way around the property just down from where that gas collection station is on CO RD 152.

After 7 years, this was our last year on the property. We let a lot of deer walk over the years. I saw more deer than I ever have and hope that this does not become over hunted again. I saw a beautiful 12 point on camera that needs another year to mature and hope he is not killed - this year anyway. There were several mature bucks that I was going to go for this year although not as nice looking as the younger buck.
We live in San Antonio and this has just been a hard drive on us. We decided to leave it and hunt with a friend near Junction. Good luck to you! Let the young ones walk so that you can get a real trophy one day.
Jimmy used to let us hunt a property the family owned near Duster - we actually saw the biggest bodied buck there we had ever seen in the area.
I created a topic called "Comanche County" and several folks that hunt the area used to get on it a lot - we would talk about the rut, food plots etc. But it was nice to talk to folks that hunted fairly close to us. Touch base with that topic from time to time as it will give you good information.
If you are going to do it, give it your best!

Just noticed this comanche county forum! Here are a couple buck's we that came from Sidney just northwest of the town of comanche. These were takin' in 08'!!!! None of these compare to the 171" 25.5"inside typical 10 point that the rancher shot out from under us! I saw the 171" alive in the middle of bow season and the rancher brought it to my deer stand Nov. 14th! He shot it from his truck layed up under a tree with a doe! Hint's why we aren't on the property anymore! MY Buck!!! Managed-8pt. Eric's Buck-Manage 7pt. named "funkytown"! The rancher let his grandson shoot this one off the place while we weren't there then had the nerver to bring it to camp and show us!!!! And to think this buck doesn't hold a candle to the big ten he shot!!! WE paid him $5400 out of the $6000 we leased it for and he held my treestand's hostage for the other $400 I told him to get lost. He said from the start he wouldn't hunt and then shot two monster's! Two of us shot little buck's in late season and the other two didn't shoot anything! here's the grandson's deer some of you may have seen it in the newspaper!

We own some property on 2247, about 2 miles south of Duster, but haven't hunted it in years. Used to be alot of deer in that area until the peanuts and watermelons stopped being farmed. Good to hear it's rebounded a bit.

Just checked in, to see what new is happening in Comanche. Sorry to see your rancher shoot on your lease. That sucks - unfortunately that happens too often.
If you are going to do it, give it your best!

I'd be really tickled to see deer in the day light. We're east of Proctor Lk for three years. Three deer killed 1st year, saw two yearlings last year. So, this will probably be my last year here. Lots of good fishing, ducks, camping for the family..... no deer!
I'd ask him if he's pregnant. He missed a s__tload of periods. I'll take "things that look like a uterus" for $200 Alex.

We had a problem seeing deer the whole time we were in Comanche - we found tree stands helped. We also went several years without shooting much at all except pigs or spike deer. This had helped letting does and small bucks walk - this past year I actually would see several deer walking around together - imagine that.
We were excited to see the deer this season in Comanche but at the last minute we moved to Sutton County this year, where there is a ton of deer.
If you are going to do it, give it your best!

Has anyone been in the field this year - the drought is going to have a toll on all the wild life. Sucks right now!

I hunt the Erath, Comanche line. Last year I saw a ton of deer, more than Ive seen in 20 plus years of being there (family owned)Ive been out a few times this year and it hasnt looked so good. Seen signs of a few but nothing like in years past. Theres no water on the place so I know that has something to do with it. Hope we get a turd floater soon. Was told that there was some rain down that direction earlier today..any truth to that?
