Just curious who else hunts or has used a 1903 in the field. I have one and love it, just don't see many of them around.

I do sometimes

I have some magic beans if anyone is interested. No extra time hunting but they'll make you fart to the tune of Back In Black...

Mt "go to" rifles are a 1917 Eddystone and an 03. Both have been customized and scoped.

I also have some originals that I shoot sometimes. However, I don't hunt with them because I can't hit anything without a scope.

I killed my first buck with one in 1980. It was my grandfathers and was made by the LC Smith Typewriter Co. Chambered in 30.06 and equipped with a Weaver 6x scope.

We're twin sons of different mothers. I killed my first buck in 1968 with an 03-A3 made by Springfield. I sporterized it myself while in high school--a brutal job, I must admit. It wore a generic German 6x scope that my father brought home from Europe during his military service. I still have the rifle, but it now wears an attractive Fagen aftermarket stock.

My fist rifle was a Sporterized 03 RF Sedgley Springfield. It came with a Lyman peep rear with a thin blade fron sight. I took my first deer with it when I was seven, then Dad had it drilled and tapped and mounted a fixed 6 Weaver with the dot and it still wears that to this day. I picked up an 03 Remington from a member here about 3 years ago.

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

Yep. This is a "high number" Shilen barrelled, Timney triggered, 03A3 made by Springfield. Gun-show find for $150.00. Excellent shooter and still getting the job done.

Years ago I once hunted with an original military one.. Sure was a load to carry around all day, but hey it did the job.

Heheheheh!!! Me too! I have a 1903A3 and a Pattern 17 Eddystone that are both still in original military configuration that I don't hunt with..would love to find an old Springfield '03 that has been sporterized previously to play around with, though.
