Only you can really answer that. Most guys I know that shoot a shotgun at those distances use buckshot that patterns well out of their gun. If you have to use slugs then shoot them through your guns to find out.

A scope would allow for more precise placement of the shot but if you shoot it well with the bead a scope would not be required.

I would just bight the bullet and get a rifled slug barrel for the 870 that has a cantalever scope mount

gonna head out to the range later today...and will shoot about 5rds @ 50yds using the front bead...and should be able to determine which direction i'll go in. I really want the Silver Rifled Barrel...but $400+ is bit steep for me right now...might have to settle...but dont wanna regret it. u know how that goes.

Where I grew up we could only use slugs... Started out as a young guy using a front bead and some remington sluggers or winchester rifled slugs. Sight it in with the bead and 50-60 yards shouldn't be an issue...

I have a cantilever rifled barrel now with a scope and I use the Sabot slugs which are four times what you pay for rifled slugs and I can reach out and touch someone with it but it was alot of $$$ and time sighting it in

Wasn't born in Texas, but I got there as fast as I could.
