Great caliber. Use a tuff bullet like a Accubond, A-Frame, Partiton, etc and it certinly is enough for elk. Wouldnt be my first choice but still plenty enough gun to cleanly take elk at reasonable ranges.

Next ? If all I have is a 50 yd range , where should I sight it in to be on at 200 That would depend on which bullet, velocity and height above the bore the scope is. With most setups it will be around .5 to .8 inches high at 50yards for being on at 200, but you would want to shoot it to confirm.

do it to it, depending on where you are going to hunt, I would look at sighting it in for 300.

Good caliber. Fine for elk if you don't try crazy long shots.

150gr. Barnes TSX is what I would use its a bone crushing bullet that expands on contact and penetrates

I wouldn't hesitate to use a 270 WSM on elk. In fact I'd call it an excellent round for elk. Put a premium bullet in it and go kill the biggest friggin' bull on the mountain at any reasonable range.
Amazes me how us Texans seem to think it takes a cannon to kill one, but the locals (which I know a few quite well) up there that have killed propably ten or twenty times as many as most here seem to think the ol' 270 Winchester, .280, 06' and others are more than enough for even the biggest bull on the mountain.

My father has used the .270 WSM to kill four elk. It works just fine.

I prefer the 140 grain Nosler or Winchester Accubond bullet. It will do the job on elk.
