Anyone that does not see a problem in shooting these 6 month year old button bucks, does not need to be hunting. Regardless if they are once a year hunters or not, it's simply rediculous. Plus, the price one pays for these deer to be processed, is most likely more money than they would pay for meat at the store. If they just want venison, most, if not every processor offers deer meat for sale due to the donation's of deer. Nice first (only only probaly) post. Please turn your drivers license in and sell your vehicle if you have ever exceeded the speed limit please! You should not be driving since speed kills, shooting a young deer on accident never has... And if you have actually bought meat from a processer that got it from wild deer shot by hunters, then you would be breaking a serious law.

I was talking about buying it from the people willing to donate it. Anyways, I just don't know how anyone can be proud of themeselves from shooting such a young deer. There are way to many deer in Texas, atleast make sure the deer is not a nubbin buck. If they don't know what it is, WHY shoot it.

And BTW, I'm pretty sure it's illegal to buy it from anybody.

It's the best of both worlds if you think about it. You get to kill a buck and tag it as a doe!

It is illegal to buy wild deer from anyone.
No one said they were proud to shoot a little deer. I am pretty sure 99% of ones shot are on accident whether it be from a novice or someone just needing to pull that trigger without double checking first what they were doing due to having a very frustrating season or the conditions or just really thinking it was a doe or an older spike. There is still zero thing illegal about it.
I think it is actually honorable to tag it and process it. I am sure plenty of people will just let it lay in the field and say they shot a coyote to their buddies...
I some countries they shoot yearlings on purpose since they think they are better tasting.

im sure that majority will agree with me while others may not...but anyways...was at the meat locker picking up my cape from my kansas buck...and in comes a truck with a deer in back...worker ask.."got a doe"...the bozo replies "no..thought it was, but its got nubs on its head"...this mistake is understandable maybe if your kiddo is in his or hers first couple of year of hunting by thereself...but a grown man...got to be kidding me...this thing maybe weighed 50lbs...maybe this just gets under my skin because of my hunting nature...but there are way too many deer in texas to be killing one that is 6 months old...especially a nubbin buck...for people who want to shoot the smaller ones...be certain that it isnt a buck...this is why i hate going to processors sometimes...just isnt right!!!! Without a doubt the most idiotic post I have ever read. He can shoot whatever he wants as long as he tags it. As long as they don't have 1 inch of bare bone, a nubbin buck can be tagged as antlerless. I've already shot a nubbin buck this year. Its gonna make some tender steaks. of coarse u think so...u made the same ignorant mistake..could have got a few more years under his belt and made a nice buck for somebody someday...we all want to shoot a big buck in our lifetime...with this mentality it will never happen for most all hunters in texas...again JMO!!

Dude, get off your high horse. It's all about you isn't it? I didn't think deer hunting was a Democratic sport where everyone is 'entitled' to that buck of a lifetime. If you could shoot a buck of a lifetime every year then it wouldn't be one.
You shoot a nubbin or a mistake you get a good ribbing but no one should be looked down upon.

not even close...just trying to talk some sense to people saying that they wander why they dont shoot anything big..or see much...and ill never hunt a high fence...by the way if you are saying its an accident...thats one thang...but these goof balls that do it on purpose...is borderline unethical

Some of these posts crack me up, seriously, it is upto the shooter on what he or she wants to take. There are to many assumptions and variables going on, what if the nubbin was his first deer and he was proud of what he harvested? My first bow kill was a nubbin buck, I felt so good about accomplishing somthing I have never done before. Would hold off on shooting one now, but dang give the guy a break. Yeah it could have grown up to be a 150 class deer, but most likely not, unless you are a heavely managed property. I've been on here for a little while and it kinda gets under my skin on how some people look down on what people shoot. Its hunting, not politics. If the guy mentioned was an experienced hunter, I'm sure his buddy's at camp had fun with the situation and won't forget the memories of that hunt. If somthing like that happens on our lease you will get ragged a while about it but know one would look down on you or judge you for what you shot. Its all about having fun! And dang those little dudes taste great!!

Yeah it could have grown up to be a 150 class deer, but most likely not, unless you are a heavely managed property. that is exactly why all of us hunt here on the forum...we all carry hopes in baggin a big buck...with the help of everyone in paying close attention..will only benifit everyone in trying..i guess this all started back when i was on an outstanding lease just south of brady right on the san saba...awesome genetics!!! then people would bring guest and sometimes they would shoot nubbins...which were obviously sons of the bigguns that we were taking...also to if you are trying to manage and your neighbors dont give a flying flip...then your heard will suffer also...genetics are key, but age is just as important...i guess hunting to me now that i have been doing it for a while is actually going out there and tryin to hunt the old ones..they actually require being hunted...these bambi"s just love to walk out, not knowing any better...not really hunting to me...i want everyone to have a blast hunting...thats really what its all about...my boy would have a smile no matter what he shoots im sure...but i know if u ask your kid what he or she wants to shoot..its always a big buck

I've killed a nubbin buck before....in fact our group killed three in one season once. We were on an MLD property where we were supposed to kill around 80 does, which meant killing just about every doe we saw while hunting. In doing our part to fulfill the game management plan, a few mistakes were made. I wasn't necessarily proud or happy about it when it happened to me, but understood it's a common mistake in our situation when trying to take out a ton of anterless deer.

SO when that happens (MLD nubb'n for doe), do they (nubb'n/males) add the doe quota? Or do you go take three more doe to meet the female numbers?

goes toward the bucks on paper, does on permits...that is if folks put a #1 on the M/F slot in the log instead of putting a #2 to hide a mess up.

Very good points trigger, we as well try to manage our bucks the best we can and also hunt the older bucks. I feel your pain on neighbors shooting young nubbins or young bucks with good genetics. unfortunatly there is nothing much we can do about it on low fence. Just need to do the best we can on our land and hope for the best. As people hunt longer they begin to understand the benifits of managment. Just need to let the inexperienced learn as they go. Just can't get mad about it or let it bother you to much because it happens, and its going to continue to happen untill there is a law made to prevent it.

Wasted? How do YOU know HE wasted a tag. Could of been an awesome weekend, a fine morning in the stand and an outstandning memory for someone. The deer could have been 1 year old or 7 years old. It is freaking dead either way and about to be eaten.
You guys that have enough deer that requires 240 does be culled, congratulations. If you have enough deer that a 150 class deer "needs another year", congrats.
Me - I take my one little scrawny a$$ deer per year off my property and have some good meat for awhile. If you think I'm messing up the hurd, fine.
Please continue your bitchin now.

There seems to be alot of people that forget not everyone get to enjoy the luxury of have a $1000 scope and and "trophy lease".
So people me include have made the same mistake, however the majority seem to think that at 100-150 yards at the beginning or end of legal shooting light you can see a that the biggest "doe" of the bunch actually has two little points breaking the skin. C'mon that is BS.
We all need to lighten up let others that have nothing to do with you do as they please.

it just seems that some counties are doing AR...they are trying to let deer mature or just let their racks get bigger...why wouldnt this go for nubbs...mistakes do happen and believe me i aint perfect...i know that 75% of leases would frown upon bringing in a nubb to camp...if it was a mistake...lets try to learn from them and not let it happen again...maybe im still pissing in the wind, but it would make hunting better..im pretty sure!!!

A few years ago a friend of mine invited me to go hunting with him near Rocksprings on a piece of family property. He had never hunted in his life and wanted to give it a try. So, on the first evening of the hunt I hear him shoot. We get back to camp and I said where's your deer? He said "I shot one that's not legal so I threw it in the brush". I told him that it was not possible to shoot an illegal deer in that county. If it's a deer, it's legal! He said "no way, it's too dang small to be legal". Well, I finally talked him into taking me to see his kill and it was a nubbin. As you can see in the picture he is a large guy and I still get a laugh every time I see that picture and think about that hunt. It was a good time..lol.

Some just shoot anything that walks, not worth getting 15lbs of meat. And we wonder why there's AR's. X2 Exactly
