i like the steiner predators. Light weight, crisp clear image. pretty much all i will ever buy in binos are steiner, and as for scopes i like burris. These work well for me. Best i can tell you is try a # of binos b4 you buy some. Ask all your buddies to look thru theirs.

I'd love to have a pair of Leica's or Swarovski's but settled for Steiner Predator 10x40 due to price. Very good optics. I also own two pair of Nikon Action series in 8x40 and 10x40. For the money, they're tough to beat.

BEST BINOCULARS
Whats the best hunting Binoculars to see close up?.......What yall think of the Nixon 12x56? Did you mean NIKON binoculars? They're a good buy for the money, but they're nowhere even close to Zeiss, Swarovski or Leica for optical quality. I currently own Nikon, Steiner, Swarovski and Zeiss binos, and out of those, I prefer the Zeiss. I've never owned, or looked through as far as I can recall, a pair of Leica's.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

if you're looking for a good deal, you can pick up a set of vortex razor right now for half the price they normall are... around $500. They aren't as good as swarovski, but to me, there isn't enough different for an additional $1300

I got a "free" Burris spotting scope when I bought my rifle scope years ago. Anyway, I took it on a hunt and was messing with it and thought it was pretty cool. Then, my buddy let me borrow his Steiners (don't know the model-they were smaller). I dang near threw that spotting scope in the trash...absolutely no comparison. I was amazed.

I've never been a binocular guy. I usually kept a relatively cheap pair around and would leave them under the seat all year, then take them hunting. I've been blessed with incredible eyesight and can typically see more with a blind eye than I can with bino's just because it's easier to pick up movement without them.
Well, I'm about to turn 40 and that's changing. I first noticed it a bit last year, but this year it's a bit worse. I have great optics on my rifle, but my binos have gotten bad enough that I can only see out of one side at a time. Basically, I check them out in the binos, then if I think it's worth seeing more, I put a scope on them. This is only when hunting whitetails from stands as I usually take a spotting scope with me when hunting mulies or sheep.
I'm thinking my Christmas present to myself this year will be a good pair of binos.
With that in mind, I hear alot about who has the best optics, but because of my clumsy/rough nature, I have a different question:
What is the toughest, best set of optics out there? Something that can be beat around a bit and not take much damage? I'm a big guy and don't always know or feel what I'm banging around. As much as I'd like to think I'd be careful with a pair of good bino's, I've grown too accustomed to banging around Busnells and not caring what happened to them.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

same thing when you look through a leupold spotter and then pull out a swarovski.....only difference is with the swaro, you gotta get a highend tripod for it b/c those heavy jokers will make those vanguard tripods get loose in a hurry.

If you are sitting in a stand, I dont think you can get any better than Swarovski 15x56. That's what I have and I will have them till the day I die.

I've got an old pair of Aus Jenas that I got as a gift back when I first started hunting that I keep on the dash of my truck, they have never let me down, even doing my scouting under lowlight conditions.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. My steiner predators ride on the dashboard, get tossed in the back seat, and also get tossed in my back pack. They have been very durable, and I prefer them over many of the other bino's i have looked thru. Only problem i have had is the rubber eye pc has a small cut in it from not taking great care of them. What i like is they are light weight, i can hold them with one hand when scanning the senderas. I wear them around my neck, and because they are small, can just tuck them in my jacket so they aren't dangling around hitting things. When the one's i have get beat to death, i will be going out and buying the same one's to replace them. I have the 8 x 30

I have a pair of Nikon Action 8x40 and pair of Swarovski 10x42 and yes the Swaros are really really good, for the money those Nikons are nothing to turn your nose up at. Only knock on the Swaros is they are pretty heavy.

Take a look at the Bushnell Lengend Ultra HD's. These are great binos that compare to most 500.00 binos. I know that the german brands are great, not all but most, but they are also way overpriced. Go look at the Bushnell's they sell more bino's than any company in the world so they are doing something right. They make cheap stuff and great stuff to fit everyone.
I would suggest going with 10X binos. 12X are very hard to hold steady and because they are 12X they accentuate every jitter you have. 10X also will work better in low light that 12X.

I like my Nikon Monarchs. If you are 20 or 30 I think they are the best for the price and can take a beating and they will fix them for free. I took them up on that after driving down the road for a few miles on my bumper. I probably will need an upgrade when I hit 40 though. Nothing beats the glass in the high end ones.

I go more for about the $100 binoculars, I would never shoot as far as I can see. The binoculars are not going to bring the game any closer to where I am located. I usually only scan about 300 yards out, even a pair of opera glasses will cover that distance.

I have a pair of Leupold Acadias that I bought 2 years ago. I have been very pleased with the optical quality in all conditions and for under $200 I would recommend them to anyone looking in that price range. I can't say anything about their durability b/c I'm a freak on babying all of my equipment.
