I know this is going to be a vague question but I will ask it anyway.. I put my feeder out today on a new lease and was wondering how long it takes for the deer to find the corn.. I did what some of you told me to do and that was to put some corn trails leading to the feeder. I got my camera set as well. I know this might be a tough question but who better to ask then people on this great forum. Thanks

It shouldn't take too long. Their noses can pick up the smell of the corn if the wind is right. Also if you put the feeder near any trails you should be up for a quick turn around.

My new protein feeder it took the deer 2 days to start hitting it hard. The first day only about 5 showed up, second about 25.

Hico, I agree with the thoughts on getting some corn spread out away from the feeder. One thing that I would do is to set my feeders to feed just like I would want them to during season, as for as time of day. Just remember that we will have a time change in the fall. As for the length of run time, I would keep it fairly short right now, remember, the corn is for attraction, not a buffet. Increase the time right before season, this will hold them longer at the feeder.
Good luck.

I only feed mine at 6:30am. Right now I don't want to feed in the evening because all I will feed is hogs. When we quit feeding in the afternoon in the off season we saw far less hogs. I wouldn't throw more than 5 seconds.

in certain places it's kinda like a habit as with people. when the spinner goes off it's time to eat.

Feeding 2X a day like you would during the season is a good way to go. I would feed for at least 5 seconds and get a decent amount of corn out. A 2 or 3 second feed puts out just enough for the dominate buck or doe to eat while the others watch and loose interest. Now is not a bad time to put something extra out for Mamma either because odds are she is feeding twins. JMO.

I have some feeders out but the deer are ignoring them. Too many natural choices at this time. Of course, the coons and squirrels are enjoying them.

On the ranches I feed it is hit or miss. Some feeders are getting hit fairly hard and others barely. But, most of what I'm feeding now is protein. Hard to believe they are ignoring corn, but you can never tell for sure what they are gonna do.

We feed about four or five times a day for 2 seconds each to keep the deer in the area and then go to two feedings in the season. We set up new feeders several months back. Two of them the deer hit the first night. One took about three days.If there are other feeders in the area they will know what the sound is.

I hung my feeder yesterday with a 5 second throw twice a day, but like others have said, there is a ton of nateral food on my place right now. I have one neighbor who has planted clover for his bees and another growing soy beans. They are bedding down on my place and eating on their's. I tried something last year that worked like a charm. i put out jolly ranchers and they can't seem to get enough. I unwrap them and put them in an 8" disposable loaf pan, laying flat. I bake them at 250 for twenty min. or so until it becomes one block. After it cools good, overnight, I hang it in a tree using bailing wire and here they come. It has to be the strong smell that brings them. I don't care what it is, I just know that it works. I use this to help them find my feeder and to keep them feeding around my feeder. The feeder helps bring them in when I want them. I found it to be a great combination. My place is in Red River county and I was lucky to see a handful of deer a season. Using this combination, I saw 14 deer opening morning. Take it for what it's worth.
Thanks

I GUESS A LOT DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU PUT IT... WE PUT UP A NEW FEEDER ON A GOOD DEER TRAIL SUNDAY ABOUT 2 PM AND WENT BACK TO CLEAN OUT THE BLIND ABOUT 6 PM. THERE WAS A DOE UNDER THE FEEDER
