I think maybe the acorns are starting to sour after some frigid temps the last few days. Finally having deer come back to feeders after several weeks of very little activity.

With the moon starting to fade, the next couple of weeks could make for some pretty good hunting.

Anyone else seeing similar changes?

Where I hunt they are still staying away from the feeders, but they do stop and eat the corn I broudcast in the clearings, but the cold snap should kill off some of their forbs and acorns should be about done also, so we shall see.

I killed a ten point yesterday and he was rolling fat, and it wasn't from eating my corn!

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

I sure hope so. If not I'm going into growing corn in a 10foot radius and seel the cobs. They'll come to it.

I sure hope you're right. The full moon, warm temps, wind, and acorns have definitely had a big impact. Even with this cold front, I still had the wind to contend with, so I didn't see much at all last week. I gave up on hunting near the feeder a few weeks ago and started hunting the woods, which has helped, but I still haven't seen the mature bucks that I saw back in September and early October. The rut seems to have peaked where I'm at too, because I've seen a huge decrease in activity. Guess they're going to be roaming soon, if not already.

It's been a tough start of the season.

Feeder activity has been about average so far at our lease in East Texas. What has been well below average is how the deer have been hitting our food plots. Granted, all our food plots got a very poor start with the lack of rain. Still, they've been up now for several weeks and the deer are not hitting them for the most part.

In Erath, we had lots of activity last weekend and I was able to take a nice 8 pt. This weekend was very slow with not much coming to the feeders. The ones (only does) that did come to the feeder just stood at the feeder pen fence for a few seconds and then took off.

I think that the rut is over at our place and we should start seeing more deer at the feeder within the next few days as everything is starting to turn yellow.

The rut is on in the Hill Country, every one of my hunters this week got their bucks! They are not going to the feeders at all, but thats okay, I put up pop up blinds to change our hunting tactics as they change their patterns, I am glad I stopped doing season leases last year and went to day hunts-that way with the economy in bad shape, even the guys that could not afford to get on a seasonal place all got lucky too. We have had 43 bucks taken off this place so far this year, and I stll have plenty 120-150 class to get on ice. After the season, I promise to take the time to learn how to post photos here.

God is great, deer is good and wild hogs are crazy.

I had a LOT of corn go to waste this year, just piling up on the ground being flat ignored.

thank god we don't have acorns here in south texas.

feeder activity has been good, except for the full moon periods

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I hunt a little N.E. of Junction and this has been the best of the last 10 yrs. Sat eve. I saw five 8's, a 6, a 4, a spike and four doe. All but one of the 8's was at the feeder.(might have something to do with the fact that the ( * )hole and his three sons on our south east corner moved away 2 years ago!)

Well we went this weekend and noticed on game cameras only that they are coming to the feeders here and there! There not coming like clock work yet but I did have a couple does and a few smaller bucks return to the feeders. Hopefully my next trip up to the lease in a couple of weeks will result in me harvesting something worth bragging about.

This year, for me, has been the worst year in a long time. Weather has sucked & the acorns were thick.

I had the same problem up here in the panhandle until I added comere deer. Now they arent leaving hardly anything on the ground. Our feeders are being hit twice a day by alot of the same deer. Good luck!
