I have some old 243 and 30-30 re-loaded ammo that is about 40 years old. Its been stored inside. Does anyone know if it safe to shoot or can it be unassembled or what's the best wy to dispose of it? Thanks

First question is who reloaded it.
If it wasn't you, I would concern it an unknown entity.
To disassemble, I would use a bullet puller and then dump the powder.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.

Many thanks for replies. My father-in-law re-loaded it and he is the type of person who is real particular about things. If I disassemble them then can the bullets and shells be reused? aslong as they appear to be in good shape still?
Thanks

Put a small bit of cotton down in the bullet puller. It will keep the nose of the bullet from becoming disfigured.
My only concern would be how many times the brass had been reloaded.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.

Useing older ammo "may" be safe but would prolly not be that consistant as the bullet and the case may form a bond that could give different pressures. I went thru that with some older ammo my dad had for his 30-06. I would save the lead and chunk everything else. (unknown powder/ unknown brass history)
