I want to build a towable, one piece, 6x6 blind on 10 foot tower. I'm struggling with the tower dimensions. In order to be steady with or without guy wires, how wide does the tower need to be at the ground? I have a some good ideas to start the project but would like to hear from others about their projects, do's/dont's and photos if your willing to share. Thx, TXPower

I've never built a big tower, 8 foot was the highest we've made.
Always went by size, and doubled the numbers
4x4 blind gets an 8x8 base
6x6 gets 12x12
4x6 gets 8x12
That's how we've done it, and ran braces connecting all 4 legs.
I will fear no evil, for thou art with me.

without guy wires it's gonna be tough unless you double the width at the blind probably six inches out each leg should be about a 5 degree angle i think with head math

Redseal, your saying measure out 6 inches from each corner of the blind at it's bottom and then find a 5 degree angle 10 feet all the way to the ground? Thanks gentlemen for the replies, TXPower

I build mine 2 foot larger that the top. 4x4 is 6x6 at bottom so yours would be 8x8. I use a center anchor with ratchet strap. Never had one blow over.

Regardless of base width, I would still run guy wires to something. A box blind in the air, no matter how tall, is like a freakin sail in the open wind. A few good straight line winds, or tornado and it is gone. I had mine thrown half a mile a few seasons back because of not being tied down. I can assure you we run guy wires on all ours now.

And I would run it off angle, rather then a specific size. Let the angle determine the base width, not vice versa.

ours is 12 ft tall. i think the most important part is to find a mesquite tree, run a cable fro the botttom of ur stand and anchor it to that mesquite. have 2 to 4 guide wires coming off and braces on all legs then do it as tall and wide as u want

Easiest way is buy 16 ft junker trashed dual axle camper trailor, Widest legal towable base allowed, Build up an hinge at home, drop it. Flat drag to lease errect it. AN BEWARE OF POWER LINES THERE.
