Heading up for first serious trip. Didn't get to go last week and was curious about movement. Thanks

In Western Edwards Co. the deer were moving better in the afternoons last weekend. Bucks were chasing doe but the doe were not yet receptive. PM me if you want more detail of our location compared to yours.

I hunt the border of Val Verde and Edwards... pretty surprised if Bucks are already chasing does this early in the year... rut usually doesn't spike until mid-December

welcome To the THF TexasRoo. I been hunting the same Western Edwards Co. area since '87. You are correct rut peak is usually within a few days either side of December 7. TP&W study has coincided well with our observations. Like I said middle age bucks are chasing doe, but the doe are NOT receptive yet. Have seen this type of pre-rut activity quite often over the last 20 years or so out there. Hopefully it indicates a good strong rut and not a "trickle rut" like we've seen the last couple of years. This year seems to be shaping up a lot like the 07-08 season, that year the rut was nuts!

In Sutton Co, just north of Edwards Co, the Deer were moving well. A few bucks were chasing does. It was real windy and the majority of the movement was in the evenings.

We are on southern Edwards near the Kinney County line. I agree about the rut, we have been there for 9 years and you can mark a calendar for December 7 being peak of the rut. Really looking forward to it.

Texas Roo - welcome to the forum

Thanks for the welcome guys

murph - you're right 07-08 was a great year, saw SO much rutting activity and ended up taking a real nice buck that was quick on a doe in the classic nose down. I hope you're right and that type of rut repeats itself! i'll be out there this weekend
