I practice on the ground. When getting in the stand say 16' up. Is 20yrds on the ground the same at 20yrds in the stand?

Second ? If you were to buy two ladder stands would you buy the same height to help with the shooting distance or does it matter? Thanks

Thanks, The weak call it Obsession, The strong call it Dedication...EvotekBows

It's not how far a shot, it's how close you got.

Although I would NEVER recommend this to anyone else, I get on the roof of my house and shoot down at my McKenzie target. Besides getting your sights set, it would give you a great way to determine your actual point of aim so that the arrow passes through the kill zone. I don't have sights on my bow but I still have to practice the way I'm going to shoot.

Practice doesn’t make perfect.
Practice makes permanent.

If I remember my high school math correctly....

The formula is a^2 + b^2 = c^2
Convert 20 yards into feet = 60 feet
a = 60 feet (distance taken from bottom of stand to target)
b = 16 feet (height from ground to the arrow)
c = unknown

60^2 +16^2 = c^2
3600 + 256 = c^2
3856 = c^2
62.09 feet = c
or
20.69 yards...roughly

As for the choice of hunting stands, I believe, the higher the better when I choose to hunt from a tripod, climber or ladder stand. We often have to adapt to the surrounding enviroment and make it work so that means there is a need for a variety of stands in different heights. I have some that are 8', 12' 16', and and climber that on rare occasions I have put up as high as 20' when I go to hunt in Mississippi. The 8' works really good in the low mesquite brush until you get your first freeze of the year. My most common height I use is my 12' stands in our oaks.
