Headed out to the stand this morning. Got in about 5:30 and stayed till 10:00, had to go to Denton for my grandson's B-Day party. He will be out with me this week on Wednesday. Hope to get a deer for him. Didn't see a deer. I have been hearing a lot of talk around town about hunters not seeing deer this year. Most of us are saying it is because of all the acorns. I rattled and called and nothing showed. I have also heard from some guys that they are seeing some deer but not the numbers they were seeing last year. I know the rut is on in parts of Jack County but I'm not seeing it were I'm at on 2190. I hope that we can get some wet and cold weather soon to sour the acorns. I have tried everything I can think of to get the deer back in the area. I looked back at my pics. and the deer vanished Oct. 3rd. I think someone told the deer hunting season opened. Have a great hunt and stay safe out there.

I just got back from hunting out there Fri and today. I'm not seeing that many deer yet either. I didn't see many signs of rut but I did rattle one in but never got a good look at him. Our biggest problem right now is drilling rigs and truck traffic.

Got back today and hunted Wed.evening,2 hunts Thurs. 2 hunts Fri and Sat and Sun morning. Located a good buck that played cat and mouse with me Fri. morning and Sat morning but no showed today. He was chasing does when I saw him Fri but not Sat. morning. Other than the 5-6 does around that buck, I saw 2 other deer all weekend and they were moving. I saw the buck on the front side of the lease and the rest of the stands are more interior. Acorns everywhere, nothing hitting feeders including turkeys and pigs.. You cant go anywhere that doesnt have a solid covering of acorns. Talked to some hunters in town that had several deer but not sure where they were killed. Most likely farther west or north where there aren't acorns. Did hear more shooting this weekend than I did opening... Still a weird year.

We hunt at Barton Chapel, south of Jacksboro and this has been our worst year, maybe ever hunting. Used to seeing 15 - 20 deer per outing and this year we're lucky to see 2 or 3. The ones we are seeing are small to medium sized bucks but we're not seeing the does like we normally do. The bucks we are seeing are chasing does. The numbers just aren't there and we're hunting nearly every day. Will keep you posted!!

Spent 4 days last week hunting just 7 miles N of Bryson. Saw 28 deer. Nothing chasing. Even had 5 bucks come in to feeder together. Feeders were hit hard but only saw one shooter.

Hunted a few miles north of Jacksboro Monday thru Wednesday morning. 5 Hunts and I saw one doe. This is my first time in Jack County and it is making a terrible first impression. Everyone keeps saying that this is unusual and it will get better. I hope so. Funny Story. My friend owns a feed store in town and he said that a man actually came in and asked him if there was something wrong with his corn because the deer won't eat it. ![confused2 confused2](/forum/images/graemlins/default/confused2.gif)

I've got a lease with 2 others in north Jack County. It has been real slow. Last weekend we did see a small buck with his nose to the ground and a doe marking an area. I think it 's going to get interesting post-Thanksgiving.

Yea, I definitely wondered our corn was defective this year. We'll be hunting near Barton Chapel this weekend and will give an update. Hope this weekend it all breaks loose.
