When I was younger I could hit birds fairly well. Then did'nt hunt for 10 years. In the mean time I have become aware that I'm left eye dominant although I'm right handed. Now I miss birds way more than I should. i think I'm overthinking the left eye dominance thing. Any suggestions?

In the long run this is the best option.

Some people will put clear tape on a pair of glasses to confuse the left eye enough the right will take over. But that doesn't work for everyone.

Good luck, that stinks!

Been dealing with it for years. Some times I over think it and try to compensate by closing an eye or over aiming. When I do I shoot horrible. I find I shoot best when I don't think about it and just shoot with instincts. The easiest shots are the hardest for me, shots that happen quick and I think about less I nail. Having a gun that fits and points true helps a ton as well since you're not trying to line up your barrell.

Had the same thing with my son. He is left eye dominant and was shooting right handed. Not a good combo.

There are plenty of options for a left handed shooter. You can get the Browning BPS pump which ejects the shells downward. Or you can get Benelli left handed autos.

Good luck.

Ok I'm not sure of your age, but I can tell ya what I found out about me. Just like you I hit better than avg. I was (Younger) less than 45. The last couple of years my shooting went all to carp. Last summer I found out my eye sight was no longer 20-10. Right eye was 20-100(I think) eek2 and left 20-30. This actually cause my left eye to take over. So when I got contacts I had them set up so my right eye focal point is for distance and left for reading. All of my hunting buddies will testify that my shooting is beyond better. Go get your eyes checked before you by a new gun.

Many thanks. I have a nice O/U Citori, which improved my accuracy. I am 32 years old. By younger, I meant in my teens. Does anyone try to shoot with both ees open? I hear that is good for some folks.

Always have with a shotgun. More out of practicality than technique. I had to find the next dove or quail to target asap before it was out of range or shot by a fellow hunter. Since you are comparing shooting with your teens to your early 30's I would get your gun fit to you. I promise your body size has changed. I grew 2 more inches after I went to college. That will change how a gun mounts. There is NO GUN that fits me out of the box!

That is the way to shoot. A shotgun is not "aimed", it is "pointed". I would get with a shooting instructor before investing in a new gun, etc. There is no substitute for proper techniques and a properly fitted gun. Then, maybe work with you ophthalmologist. If you haven't had your eyes examined in the past year, it's time for that anyway.

any gun, shotgun or rifle should be shot with both eyes open.

My eyesight is getting bad as well.

I'm going to start wearing my glasses when I hunt.

Here is one resource:

http://www.mynsca.com/net/Instructors_list.aspx?SubPage=3

If possible go with a Level 3 instructor. That is the highest accreditation from the NSCA. I have shot with Richard Whaley (North Dallas) and like him a lot, but that is a ways from you.

You can choose a Level 2 or Level 1 list from that link. I just started it off at a Level 3
