I won a brand new Remington 700 XHR 7mm rifle at the DU banquest last night. What's the easiest way to sell this gun legally for cash? I already have the exact same gun.
Thanks!

You just sell it face to face to another individual. In texas its legal.

Sign a bill of sale on a napkin if you want. Me personally if I don't know you we're going to a dealer for a quick check.

Isn't the gun still registered to me. I'm clearly a novice here, but if that gun is used in a crime, and it's found at the scene, they're showing up at my house right?

Guns aren't "registered" to anyone in the state of Texas.
My wife's only thing is it can't stare at her when she is eating or sleeping!

That's why you need a receipt and to identify your buyer.
That said, make them go to a gun shop; I'll be glad to help make the transfer...
Guns aren't registered, but they are tracked from conception.

I know you will know more than I about this, but tracked by whom? Any firearm legally manufactured or imported into the United States is reported to ATF and serialized. The chain then runs from manuf or importer to wholesaler to dealer to original purchaser... Law enforcement can access this information within 24 hours. Beyond that, it becomes more gray. But if I sold a gun (and was not a dealer) I'd still want a good receipt and to identify my buyer properly. There are also certain standards for selling a firearm in state laws as well... age, mental state, intentions, etc. but that digresses even more from the OP.

Yes.... local authorities would call ATF, who would call remington, who would tell them ABC WHolesale Firearms bought it, would then tell ATF that Joe's Pawn bought it, who would then say they donated it to DU and transferred it to Jacks Arms who would tell ATF you bought it. Sure, you can convince them you sold it. And it would be easier to do that with a receipt, DL#, etc. Is it technically registered, no. Some states require actual registration to possess a firearm. Texas does not.

Do you find that there's some buyers obviously aggrivated when they have to go to your store for a check even though it's private party? I'm to the point where I'll never sell without doing that.

Just sell it to someone with a CHL and get a bill of sale if you're worried about it. The CHL shows you they've been background checked already and they can legally buy a firearm in a store without a nics check anyway.

I saw one that was irate about it. He even mouthed off to me. I was doing it for free, and told him that he could either hush and let me do the 3 minutes of paperwork or go somewhere else.

You were doing it for free and he still whined? Talk about a dick, most places charge at least $20. And I know how great a business you run.

I totally forgot about that until last night after I posted.

Sell it to some one face to face that you meet from a reputable site such as this one or tgt. Its not illegal in Texas period, when I make a private sale I just shake hands if they look under 21 and its for a handgun i check their ID for age and thats it.
When you meet someone to sell it talk to them for a few mins ask what they want it for and why. The bottom line is like anything if it feels weird or wrong walk away from it.
If you absolutely want to go the shop route most smaller ones will sell a gun for someone on consignment for minimal charge.

How much do you want for it, I'll fill out whatever paperwork you require, if your concerned.

Had it happen to me with a pistol. I traded it, it ended up by the border, I ended up with the cops at my door. Nothing came from it, but they do know who bought it and your address, regardless of what they say about no registration.
This cannot be fixed at the voting booth.. Wake Up You Morons!
