A friend of mine shot a buck that had worms in its head. Is this a common thing here in Texas? Is the meat still good (I'm sure it is).I also shot a buck and when I was cleaning out the head for a euro mount I found some kind of grub looking think in there. I'v heard of bugs that crawl up thier noses and lay eggs ,Is this true? Thanks ahead of time.

they are just in the nasal cavity and annoy the deer, not mess up the meat. bot fly larvae i believe is what they are called, gross but harmless to the meat.

They are meningial worms(sp) they come from eating wet acorns. They were up in south east Oklahoma and they affect llamas, goats but not cattle much and some cases of deer...not good outcome for animal! I killed a 9 point last year that had them and he just stood there pig ignorant till I shot him.Do a google search and see if they are the same thing.

X2 on Nasal Bots, they will live in the throat of a deer on feed the deer eat. Definetly harmless and will not hurt the meat.

Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, b/c they know not victory nor defeat"- #26 TR

Lots of deer have nasal bots. Most people dont realize it unless you go to do a euro mount on a deer. Thats when I had my first run it with nasal bots and have seen many deer with them since.

not sure about that, every deer i shot had them and they never acted any different. your might have been something else on top of having nasal bots.
