Kinda new to the forum. Wanted to ask if anyone was hunting Nolan County. I'm taking my son out Sunday to a corparate lease and wanted to find out how the hunting is out there.

Should be a GREAT weekend in Nolan County. We were out there just north of Blackwell on opening weekend and saw a bunch of deer. Culled two 8's and a spike. A few bucks were chasing does but Rut should be really kicking into high gear now. Rattling should be very productive as well as grunt calls and estrus bleat. I've generally had more success rattling though. I've hunted out there on our family place all my life and the week before Thanksgiving is my favorite time to hunt there.

With all the rain they've had out there, there is alot of browse for the deer to feed on and they werent coming to the feeders as much as they will late in the season. If your place has planted fields or food plots, set up over those.

Both the morning and evening hunts will be good. If you are diehard, then you might do well with a midday hunt based on the solunar tables.

Good luck and let me know how you do.

You aren't heading to Pear Tree Game Ranch are you? If so, tell Bill hello.

Pear Tree is a sweet property. I can see the lodge from one of my stands... Wish hogs would move into that part of Nolan County and knock a big ol hole in their high fence and let some of their monsters loose!

I've been meaning to get out to that place. I grew up with both the owner and the guy who runs it for him and have an open invitation to come out there, but just haven't been able to do so. I do plan on getting out there after the first of the year sometime.

How long is the drive from Fort Worth? Three hours or so?

I hunt just south of Lake Sweetwater. Saw plenty of deer opening weekend. Our group is very picky about shooting, so no deer were taken. As mentioned above, the rut had yet to kick in that weekend. Deer are staying in the food plots and ignoring the feeders. We did have one group of hogs show up during the day.

From Denton, it is a 4 four drive, Weatherford is a 3 hour drive.

If you are going back home on Sunday, hang around and eat at Allen's Family Dining. They open at 11am.

coffee spelled backwards is eeffoc. I don't give eeffoc until I have my morning coffee.

I'm coming from SW Fort Worth and i drive a lttle faster than most I guess. I am hunting Sunday and Monday basically just north of the lake right on the other side of the tracks. Been dove hunting on this lease but this will be the first time i have deer hunted on it. Had a lease in winters for 6 years but let it go last year, so I have made that drive (at least as far as Abilene) many times

By the way is there a cold storage near sweetwater? It is supposed to be warm and would prefer to bring my deer back to Joshua for processing
