I occasionally shoot a single shot 12 bore that I built for myself about 30 years ago when I was working for Mowrey Gun Works in Olney, Texas.

I have some experience with a Pedersoli double barrel 20 gauge. Came from Cabela's.
With practice, it can be loaded in a couple of minutes and it shoots pretty well. It has been used for some quail hunting and shooting clay pigeons.
Only problem, one trigger is much smoother than the other.
You have to keep it clean but it's not a problem to take apart and clean it in a bucket or the bathtub.
Hope this helps.

I should have clarified in my first post that I don't own a BP double, but have shot and cleaned a Pedersoli double numerous times.
I am not qualified to answer the questions about wads, I just used the felt wads that the owner of the gun purchased when he ordered it from Cabela's.
He had a bag of yellow wads and I don't know the cost but they have always worked O.K.
Sorry I can't offer more information.

In the gun I shoot, I use a fiber 12 ga. over the powder wad, a "power piston" shot cup, and then a thin over the shot card board wad.
Basically it is like a loaded shotgun shell, except loaded with black powder or pyrodex, etc.
