I am trying to figure out how much corn will be used in a months period. I am using a 55 gallon drum with an internal funnel. I set the timer to feed twice a day at 4 seconds each time. I know this sounds elementary but I just started deer hunting with feeders this year. Thanks...

hmmmmmmmmmmm not trying to be funny here. Have you seen how much your feeder will throw out in 4 seconds??? On mine it will dump out half a pound. You also have to consider your loose to the coons and such. Hard to really say

It also depends on your feeder and how strong and fast the motor is. Mine are fairly high powered feeders with strong motors. I don't loose any corn to coons as all of my feeders are the crank up type and the coons can't get to them. I also used the broadcasters with the swinging flaps that keep the wind from blowing the corn out of the feeder for the most part.
With mine feeding twice a day for 6 to 7 seconds for each feeding they will usually run for about a month before they have to be filled again. Each feeder is a little different even when they are the exact same brand but that's a general guideline.

you can place a bucket over your spinner and set the timer off, when this happens you can measure the amount of feed dispensed and calculate from there. But as previously said, its hard to figure on loss or damage... Mike has it done right. hope you dont have cows around...... good luck.

I use a 55 gal barrel as well and have my spinner plate about as close as it will go and still not have any corn hang-up problems. I feed for 5 seconds, twice a day and my feeders will last for about 2 1/2 months at this rate. I use this rate in the off-season and during deer season, I may increase to 6 or 7 seconds.

That is what I did when I build my feeder. Then I took under concidetation 10% loss just in case as reserve. I worked for me. Coons don't get to my crank up.

I would say around 3-4 mnths. I feed at 4-5secs twice a day with a 55 gal and it usually lasts that long.
