I saw a small buck sunday morning not chasing, last night saw a funky racked 8 following some does and rubbing on every tree on my place. Hopefully this next weekend it will be full swing.

Reports are the same for most people who are in thick-and I mean thick, oaks. The deer are hitting the acorns hard and not going to the feeders. The feeders being hit the most are the ones in counties without acorns or some distance from the oak trees. The last shower should help to rot out the acorns. Good Luck.

Only saw one doe on Friday and she was running across the field never could stop her. No there wasn't a buck on her tail. I think this next week should be good.
I hunted up in Clay County on Thursday and the deer were moving up there. Saw 1 doe with 2 yearlings, one 8 point I passed on, and two 6 points very small. The 8 point was a shooter but young.

I'm out in the mesquite meadows in the north part of the county and ain't seeing nuttin' but frost in the morning. If it weren't for the cows and the crows, it would get down right boring!

I hunted yesterday and today and saw only does. It's real quiet out there in north Jack County.

Hunted Fri evening and Sat morning. I saw nothing fri evening at amy stand, but my son watched a nice 8 chase does till dark to far to shoot and saw a small 6. Sat morning 3 stands saw a total of 18 does and I saw 2 bucks. One legal older 5 or a 6 and a larger buck wider but in the brush with no shot. Brother saw 8 does in one group. Son saw 6 in one group and a nubbing buck and 2 more does that actually went to the feeder. More deer than we have seen all year..

Not moving south of Jacksboro at Barton Chapel. This is by far our worst year in 30 years of hunting there. I know the rut has peaked and maybe you'll find that one doe that hasn't been bred and bingo she'll have the bucks with her. I have hunted every day, morning and afternoon, except for 3 days since season opened. Wished the rut had been more visible but it wasn't. We're keeping our feeders full and watching the wheat fields but as of yet they aren't hitting either one very hard.

I've hunted Jack county for 40 years and I still say if you haven't got one by Thanksgiving you're in trouble, the rut is winding down or over. If you do find that one doe in heat she may have more than one buck dogging her. My 3 largest bucks, 143, 147 and 162 2/8 were all killed around the middle of November, all in Jack County. We don't stop hunting at the end of November but the big buck sightings certainly slow down.

Thanks for the insight. I hope you are wrong. In your 40 years of hunting Jack Co is it normal for deer sightings/movement/feeder appearances to be so minimal up to this point in the season?

I have been hunting there for 12 years and this is an off year. The bumper acorn crop is urting the deer movement in that they dont have to. OUr lease is probably 85% oaks and I bet there isnt many places that arent covered in acorn on the ground. The deer we have seen are fat and look great. This colder weather and rain should help things. I hope..
