This was the first hog that I have ever shot. When I dressed it I was suprised that there was no smell. The hog gutted easily and again no smell (out of the ordinary). I don't know if all hogs will be like this, but I enjoyed and am eager to take another one. The processor said it would probably weigh 200 lbs. Nice boar in my opinion for my first. Also I shot him in the shoulder with a 30.06 and he never took a step. 150 grain soft point.

You don't need to process hogs much. Flip em over on the tailgate. Make some cuts with a knife above the front shoulders. Cut strips down the back with a razor knife and pull the skin off. Remove the back straps. Next take a knife and cut the back hams off. Skin both hams. You can take the front quarters if you want. Not much meat on them and there are lots of hogs in this world. Skip the tenderloins also or you will have to gut it.
Lots you can do with the meat of the hams. most smoke them. I have deboned them and ground the meat. I add the ground pork to ground venison etc.
Little hogs can be skinned ,gutted, cut in half with a sawzall and smoked.
Most processers hate messing with wild hogs.

X3 Nice looking hog!!! I found a processor that said he could cut it into steaks and chops and make the rest into link sausage for around $120. He came recommended so I am hoping for the best.

I use TD's in Strawn and they will grind a whole hog into sausage patties (hot and regular), and give you the tenderloins and backstraps for $85. Not a bad deal!!

As to the no bad smell to your first hog, congrats. Some stink so bad you can smell one a hundred yards away while others have no bad smell at all. Kinds like ome people in that respect. The ones with no bad smell usually taste fine, those that stink bad become coyote/hog bait for me

i can't see wasting meat. i'll admit i don't eat all the hogs i shoot. if they smelli take them to the coyote pile. but if they are clean smellin pigs, then i gut and skin them as i would a deer. its all good meat.
as for processors, they charge enough, they'd damn well better process whatever is brought to them. i'd butcher a ton of pigs for what they charge to process an animal.
